Lady with a Sparkler: a Ringer drabble (PG-13)

I seem to have had an attack of drabblosity lately...here's one more, from The Ringer.

Lady with a Sparkler

It was another gig, Barry called and told me where and when. Seven o’clock, here’s the address. Hey, twenty bucks is twenty bucks. The party was a real snoozer. We were background noise, nothing more. Then she waltzes by, red dress so tight over her belly and thighs, I’ll bet every man in the place was imagining those legs wrapped around his hips. I know I was. And carrying that sparkler on her shoulder, as though she needs anything more to draw attention to herself. There’s a woman who likes to play with fire. She can light my fire, anytime.

yep... this is carefree Mick alright. He probably was a bit of a hound in his human days.

I think you should develop that illness a bit more often.
Love your drabbles. This is great because there's this spark coming through, the moment Mick realized this was someone special.

Keep drabbling. This captures the beginning perfectly.

Agreed, Luxe - I've always thought Mick was a bit of ladies' man back in the day.

This puts in mind a Mick that chafes in that ridiculous Hawaiian shirt, but hey - any money's good money, yes? Then he's completely bowled over by Coraline.

Alot going on in just 100 words. Lovely, Lucky.

I love Mick's voice in this one. A bit of a dog, but a bit of an innocent as well. And NO IDEA what kind of relationship he was about to get sucked into. Light my fire? Hah! Incinerate my life, is more like it! But he's such a sensualist, such a creature of whim. He just follows his...um, nose... ;) right into disaster.

Hmmm... remember that line, "I wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating crackers"? It just struck me that it's the ONE thing he'll never have to worry about with Coraline... :chin:

:giggle: I can hear her response now.

"I never eat....crackers in bed."

Oh I have missed your stories over at FF and I am glad that you are still writing. That alone makes it worthwhile to come here. Poor Mick, he sure might have changed his mind if he knew what he was getting into by playing with this particular fire. But then we would not have had Mick St. John; vampire. And we all love him so I guess we have Coralilne to thank for that.

Ah, yes.

The male of the species exhibiting a truth that unfortunately can be true about most of them.

They can see better than then can think.

He is so in over his head.

Mick St. John thinks he knows the rules of engagement. Twenty dollars is twenty dollars (and could probably buy a lot more back then) and he liked what he saw.

This is an occasion when it might have been wiser to look a little more carefully before he leaped

But then again, because of what is about to happen he is able to meet Beth in about fifty five years.

Lovely insight on the musician Coraline hired to play at her party.

Thanks, Lucky

Jenna

Poor Mick, he became her cracker himself...and it took him quite a lot to kick her out of bed!

Oh, and how I love the way he looks at her in that scene...and hate it at the same moment!

It never struck me until this moment what an amazing thing it is that Coraline was carrying a lit sparkler. Vampires and fire don't mix, you know.

A bit like Mick with the lighter, except I never thought Coraline had anything resembling a death wish.

She liked to live on the edge--I get that.

I also get that Mick was attracted. Mindlessly drawn to a flame that definitely seared his soul and consumed the man he had been.

Very nice!

Thank you!

Jenna

Little did the poor boy know just what kind of awaited him

Mick should have know not to play with fire even if it was just from a sparkler.
