My bad. I thought I'd commented on this one! :gasp:

Having gained a whole new appreciation for Guillermo after working with GA, I adored this piece.
Guillermo collected his backpack, shrugged on his jacket and headed out, sketching a wave over his shoulder.
LOVING the use of words here, especially that last phrase. The reader gets such a vivid picture in their head.
His trade kept a roof over his head, his list of enemies to zero and the community wheels turning smoothly. It made him important.
The last sentence is telling. Everyone likes to matter in some small way. This is Guillermo's way of mattering, of maintaining a safe and stable life in his society.
But none of that had stopped the bile rising in his throat at the slavering queue that formed in the bowels of the building as dawn approached.
I get a vision of vampires huddling in the shadows like drug addicts, swooping in like vultures to claim a particularly juicy carcass. Guillermo's disgusted, but not enough to not make a living from the little one's blood.
It was in the humans' charnel-house that he finally realised monstrosity was a personal affliction, human or vampire.
A lesson our Mick could stand to learn. Monsters don't just hide under the bed and in closets; they walk beside us every day.

Just delightful, Red!

Thanks, lorig. :) (I posted this pretty quickly after the previous chapter so that's probably how it passed you by.) I wish we'd seen more of G too, so I'm very happy you enjoyed this story.

PNWgal, you pulled out my favourite bits. Thank you, sweetpea. I really appreciate you stopping by.

*hugs* Guillermo has become a character very close to my heart and you did him proud, Red!

After all the years as a vampire G still cares. And that's got to be tough. Tough and exhausting. But there has to be a limit, right? Otherwise he would lose his mind.

You had me feeling melancholy in the beginning. It all seemed so infinitely bleak. But I was relieved for him at the end. And happy. Guillermo is a cutie. I'm sure there are and endless number of females waiting in the wings to take his mind off the need to do what a vamps gotta do.

Why, thank you, Red. :rose: I wish I could take all the credit. Although it was my original idea to have G be a 'step up to the plate' kinda guy, his nuances and ultimate heroic quality is a joint effort. A rather good one if I do say so myself. ;) Your Guillermo, in so short a scene, has amazing depth. Makes me want to squeeze him to death. :)

I have always loved Guillermo and wished they had done more with his character.

You channeled Guillermo perfectly. The intense dislike of horrific things people and vamps do, yet practical and a realist. He has learned to shrug it off and leave it behind when he goes out the door. I never thought of him as being without a woman. He always seemed to me like he would be a real "babe magnet"!!

Another "Red Gem"!!!! :yahoo: :yahoo: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper2: :hyper2: :cheering: :cheering: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:  :melts: :happysigh: :thud: :thud: :thud: :thud: :notworthy: :hearts: :flowers:

Thanks, mitzie - I'm a huge Guillermo fan too. And I most definitely agree that he's a babe magnet. :giggle:

I love Guillermo and I LOVE this. :clapping:

This piece sums up his character so well. G is a survivor - whatever is thrown at him, you feel he would cope with it.

G and Carmela - Yay! :twothumbs:

I see I didn't look back here nearly quickly enough! Fascinating look at Guillermo ... I'd never really thought about much about what his job (especially the second job) would really do to his soul. Makes me wonder just how long he's been doing those jobs. Thanks for this very different story!!

Thanks for stopping back to read - it was fun doing something different - and taking Guillermo out for a little spin. :hearts:
