I do not own an recognizable characters. No copyright infringement is intended. This story contains romantic pairing of same sex characters if that offends please do not read further.

This is my version of how Mick and Josef found their way to each other. Spoiler warning Major character death.

Memorial Day 2009

Josef was devastated.

He thought he had prepared for every event, but he didn't pay attention to lax construction laws in New York City.

Even in the urban sprawl of New York some neighborhoods had existed but now large buildings were being thrown up in every residential area. Highrises being built as quickly and cheaply as possible before the banks called in all these high risk mortgages.

An inexperienced construction worker would crash a crane into his building and start an inferno.

There was nothing left.

Sarah was finally free from the in between world but all hope of her waking up had gone up in smoke.

Memorial Day...he would never be able to forget it.

Independence Day 2010

Mick couldn't believe it had happened. After all the years of protecting Beth, he didn't think she needed protection on a ten minute drive from the store. How could Beth's life end like that. With no warning, disease or old age.

No opportunity to change his mind about turning her.

It was all taken away from him, by someone running a red light.

Independence Day, celebration of freedom. Would he ever be free to be happy again?

Halloween, 2011

Josef and I have been spending so much time together. We were always close, but with the passing of Sarah and Beth, I think we are both considering other possibilities.

But neither one of us has been willing to make the first move.

I'm remembering a thoughtless remark I once made to Josef. "I'm your only friend who doesn't like you for your money" I think Josef is afraid to risk the relationship we have if I turned him down.

Maybe tonight it's time to take the masks off.

Solstice 2012

People haven't been this nervous since the Y2K scare 12 years ago. Today is the day the Mayan calendar supposedly ends. Native American Prophecy has this age passing and a new one beginning.

Whether the world ends tonight or lasts a thousand years, I'll be where I belong;

Lying next to Josef.

Thanks for checking out my toe dip into slash. I never wrote anything slash before although have read a lot. The first snapshots was a challenge of a pairing you normally would never do.

Cass, I love the challenges....many very interesting results.
You guys are way more talented than you realize and trying something outside your comfort zone seems to help that.
Thanks for taking it on.

Cassy, I like this look into Mick's and Josef's thoughts during these important events in their lives. You show in just a few words how their relationship could grow closer, slowly, as they came together to comfort each other through their loss. The last line is just lovely, too. Don't we all wish for that? To spend the rest of time--however long that is--with the one we love? :hearts:
