Mick and Beth spent nine hours stuck in JFK airport.
Mick was shivering waiting for the AirTrain connection to Newark airport.
Beth smiled. “You were the one who wanted a Christmas wedding.”
“Dddon’t remind me.” Mick stammered. “I can’t believe how cold it is here.”
Beth kissed him. “You should have waited to take the cure until we landed in Barbados.”
Mick shook his head. “No. I wanted to be human when I said our vows. Till death do us part has no meaning unless…..”
Beth put her hand on his mouth. “No more of that death stuff. I am worried you’re going to catch pneumonia.”
“How was I to know there was going to be a blizzard? We should have gone to Honolulu, then it wouldn’t have mattered what happened in New York.
“I suggested that but you wanted to hit all the Caribbean islands.”
Mick was blowing on his hands. “Well, I want to get as much sun as I can. Who knows how long I can enjoy it?
They heard crackling over the loud speaker
“Attention all AirTrain Customers. Due to the Snow Emergency all service is suspended until further notice. Repeat all service is suspended there are no connecting trains from JFK to Newark Liberty Airport.”
“What are we going to do?” Mick said. We don’t have a car.”
Beth was worried about him. His breath was turning to smoke. They went into the gift shop where she got directions and two I HEART NY Sweatshirts. She handed one to Mick. “Go into the Men’s room and put this on over your Henley. We have to take the subway back to Manhattan and reschedule for tomorrow.”
Mick looked at the shirt with disgust. “This is so touristy. I won’t wear it.”
Beth put her hands on her hips. “You better put it on or I’m going to wrap you up in a travel blanket like a child.”
Mick lowered his voice. “Beth, I sleep in a freezer. I can take the cold.”
“You slept in a bed at the Waldorf Astoria last night. You’re a California boy, not meant for this weather. Look our flight got cancelled, they rescheduled us out of Newark but…..she glanced at her Iphone. That flight’s been cancelled. I’m not spending my honeymoon in the hospital. She poked him hard in the chest. “Put this shirt on now.”
Mick went into the bathroom and changed. He had to admit he felt much better in the ugly but warm shirt. He put his coat back on and met Beth.
Beth smiled “Okay, now we have to take the “A” train back to midtown.
Mick sighed. “I miss my car.”
“Do you think you could drive in twenty inches of snow without special reflexes? Beth teased.
Mick growled. “Just wait till I get you alone Missy.”
Beth blew in his ear. “I look forward to it.”
