Aw, thanks, Moonlighter, Tucute...

And by the way, I'll have a doozy of a story coming up for the Reader/Writer Challenge, so fear not! I'm busy writing.

Thanks so much, LM! I don't write Mick/Cora much, but it is an interesting, complex relationship.

I know, I know. I've read it before and commented before, but when something is this good, it needs to be revisited and gushed over.

It just does.

Thanks, Lucky!

Makes me feel sorry for Coraline...

Well, almost anyway.

Thank you!

I really love this, Lucky. Sometimes the super-short ones force us to distill a story down to its very essence. And this is the perfect example of that process. This distillation is very potent indeed. :notworthy:

Wow. I'm glad I decided to bump a few of the stories from this Challenge today. This one is such a grabber. Sometimes the short stories are the ones that capture a thought with the most purity. Lucky had an amazing gift of storytelling, and I love to honor her by commenting on her stories when I revisit them.

I'm so glad you bumped this one, Alle. It's been so long since I've visited it, the impact now is just as fresh as the first time. :hankie: So often, Coraline is presented as 2-dimensionally selfish -- just wanting a plaything. In this piece, though, Lucky gave her much more depth. Using only a few words here, the irony of destroying the very thing she was trying to preserve packs a powerful -- and tragic -- punch.

Glad this got bumped. I had never read this before and boy, what a bit of powerful story telling! Coraline really did think she was giving Mick a gift, and couldn't imagine how it would backfire.

I loved all of the comments, too. Very insightful. :reading:

And seeing all the old member names again, from the early days, always makes me a bit nostalgic. :happysigh:
