This was originally posted as a note on the Alex O'Loughlin Fans for Donate Life Facebook page, to try and clear up some of the confusion.

Before we begin, please be aware that no one from the Alex O'Loughlin Fans for Donate Life speaks for, or on behalf of Alex himself, or any of Alex's people. We are a fan based organisation, and we do not, nor have we ever claimed to have direct contact with Alex himself or any of Alex's management. With that being said, I am hoping this Q&A will clear up any confusion surrounding this issue once and for all.

So what's the story with this page that claims to be Alex's Official Facebook page?

In regards to this page here - http://www.facebook.com/pages/Alex-OLou ... 7649024403 - it was set up by Rachael Wesolowski of ID Public Relations, and therefore it is official. That does not mean; however, that it is a personal page for Alex himself, or that Alex himself is involved with it in any way. As fans who have contacted ID and CBS publicity have been told, the page was intended to be a page for the fans, and was never set up as a personal page for Alex to post on.

Are you a spokesperson on Alex's behalf?

No, absolutely not. No one from the Alex O'Loughlin Fans for Donate Life, including myself, is in direct contact with Alex himself, or with any of Alex's people. We have never claimed to be. We are simply a group of fans who have been privy to certain information because of the work that we do, no more and no less.

So where do you get your information? What evidence can you provide that the page in question is official?

Initial confirmation of the page's legitimacy as an official celebrity page, set up by Alex's publicity company, came from Tenaya Wallace, campaign director of Donate Life Hollywood, and Alex's official liaison for his chosen charity. During a meeting with Rachael Wesolwski, and subsequent email exchange, Tenaya was kind enough to ascertain the correct information regarding the pages authenticity on behalf of Alex's fan base. That information was then forwarded onto myself, and Sabine Atkins (founder and chief editor/administrator of the Alex O'Loughlin Fans for Donate Life). Later, CBS publicity also confirmed this information via official social networking lists that were compiled by Erika Kauffman of CBS H-50 publicity, and sent out to several H-50 Fan and Blog sites, including H-50 Undercover.

As for the evidence that can be provided:

Here is a screencap of the email exchange between Rachel Wesolowski and Tenaya Wallace, that was forwarded onto myself and Sabine. The only modification that has been made to this is the blurring out of personal information. It should be read from bottom to top as well.

Here is a link to the list of official H-50 cast and crew social networking sites, as posted on H-50 Undercover's blog, provided by Erika Kauffman of CBS & H-50 publicity.

If you visit the Hawaii Five O Fans forum as well, you will see a post from one of the administrators saying they too have received confirmation from Lana Kim of CBS publicity that the Alex O'Loughlin Official Facebook page is indeed 'official' (you may need to register and sign in)

And finally, if you visit ID public relation's Facebook page, you will see the Alex O'Loughlin Facebook page listed amongst their likes (look to the list on the left hand side of the page, click on 'See All')

edited to add August 21st: New evidence that has just come to light. It appears that whenever people make a wall post mentioning Alex's name in full, Facebook automatically puts up a link/announcement directing people to the Alex O'Loughlin Official Facebook page. There are several pages that carry the title 'Alex O'Loughlin' (with the same spelling in use) and yet Facebook only links to one. Although this in itself is not definitive proof of the page's legitimacy, I doubt Facebook would link to one page, and one page alone, when there is clearly more than one option, unless they/the system knew that page was being run by an official representative of the person/celebrity in question. Yes this could be considered speculative, but when taken into context with the other more substantial, and verifiable evidence we have been able to provide, it does seem to at least provide, or help support further confirmation.

Didn't you initially report that the page was a fake?

Yes, we did. Unfortunately we initially received information from CBS publicity that turned out to be incorrect. CBS publicity have since taken steps to rectify that, and have sent out updated, and correct information to several H-50 and Alex O'Loughlin fan sites and fan blogs.

So why should we believe you now?

Please refer to the evidence above that has been provided. The Alex O'Loughlin Fans for Donate Life do not make claims that cannot be backed up by verifiable evidence. At the time of our initially reporting that the page was a fake, we had received evidence from CBS publicity to that effect, which we did consider to be verifiable evidence. Unfortunately, as stated, the information turned out to be wrong, and CBS publicity have since taken steps to rectify this.

But Alex himself said he doesn't have a Facebook page, and he'd rather be set on fire than join a social networking site?

Strictly speaking, that is true. Alex himself does not have a Facebook page, not a personal one that he updates himself at least, and judging by his own statement, he is also not involved with the official fan page in any way, shape or form. As for why he stated that he doesn't have a Facebook or social networking presence when there is actually an official Facebook page that was set up for him by his publicity group, we can only speculate. He may not have known about the official Facebook page that had been set up for the fans, or he may just have been responding to the question from the point of view of having a Facebook page or any social networking presence that he himself is personally involved with (which is none). Bottom line is we don't know and we cannot, nor are we going to speak on Alex's behalf.

So the page is official, but it is not Alex's personal page, and Alex himself does not post or read anything on there?

Correct.

Is it just a fan page then? How can it be official if it's just a fan page?

There is a difference between Facebook pages set up, and run by fans and an official Facebook page intended to be for the fans. The official page was set up with the intention of it being a page for the fans (as opposed to a personal page for Alex himself to use), so strictly speaking it is a 'fan page; however, not in the way that most people would understand (i.e it's not a fan page that has been set up, and is being run by fans who have no direct association with Alex himself, or his management.)
