The Scene of the Crime

“Mary Ellen, what’s wrong? You look about as white as those sheets you’re supposed to be changin’.”

“The sheets ain’t white, Em! They’re red!”

“What you talkin’ about?”

“Blood. The sheets in room 22. They’re covered in blood!”

“My word! You sure?”

“I’m sure! Soaked the pillow and the mattress something awful, too. There’s so much of it!”

“Good Lord in Heaven, have mercy! There…there wasn’t nobody still there, was there?”

“No. The room’s empty, far as I could tell. The closet too, like somebody took off in a hurry.”

“Maybe that’s what they done.”

“Maybe, but…I’m frightful worried that someone died, Em! The couple who had that room - I remember ‘em, ‘cause I saw ‘em when they booked it the other day. The woman was real high class and didn’t pay me much heed, but the man was a real nice fellow. All excited too, said he and his lady was gettin’ married. What you think happened?”

“I don’t know, Mary Ellen. But the manager’s gotta hear about this, so he can call the police. You didn’t touch nothing, did you?”

“No. When I saw the blood on the bed, I ran straight here.”

“You gonna be alright, honey? You still lookin’ pale.”

“It’s just the shock is all. I ain’t never seen nothing like that.”

“Well, you just sit down here a minute. I’ll go tell who needs tellin’.”

“Thank you. Emma?”

“Yeah?”

“You…you suppose that nice fellow’s okay?”

“I hope so, honey. I surely hope so.”

Very clever, LM!! I love how these challenges are focusing on things we'd never taken into consideration before. This is a logical scenario, that's for sure!

Just like Coraline not to bother calling the Cleaners. Too busy thinking of herself in the moment, and not the implications of her actions.

Very cleverly written! Thank you!

Aww... yet another person charmed by Mick and stunned by the loss of him. :Mickangel: I love the way this challenge has inspired people to think up scenarios to fill in so many missing bits of the story. Beautifully done, Laughter! :hearts:

Laughter

This is wonderful!

Stands to reason. Mick made impressions on others he met (not just us).

Fabulous answer to the challenge!!

Very nice Laughter

See even if you only met Mick for a few moments you know he's a nice man and he and Coraline would have memorable as a couple.

How DO you explain all that blood and no bodies, the next morning...it still leads me to the question. Is Mick St. John and Coraline St. John still an unsolved crime from 1955?

Well done, Laughter! :flowers:

Thank you for filling in another missing scene. It is fascinating to think about all the small interactions that we did not see in the episodes. This situation is entirely plausible - even if Coraline had planned to clean up the mess, she likely was distracted by how Mick reacted to being turned. The bloody sheets would have been the least of her worries...

Great response to the challenge! :hearts:

Just the conversation you imagine would have happened . . . I especially liked the way the maid talked about Mick. He obviously made a good and vivid impression on her, even in such a brief encounter. Very nice indeed!

This is terrific. You don't think of the people who would have to deal with the aftermath even if it was just a cleanup. I will tell you Coraline should have called The Cleaners and had them tidy up the room.

Nicely done! :rose: This is a very believable scene. Coraline would have had a lot on her mind after the turning. Would she have bothered to clean things up?

The conversation between the housekeepers is perfect, as is their concern for Mick.

Thank you, Laughter! :hearts:
