I don't own Moonlight or any of its characters. Thanks again Moonlighter for the read through.
A/N: I don't really know how Lila would have been notified of Ray's survival. Phone call? Telegram? Uniforms at the door like you see in old movies? So I just picked one.
War News
“Who was at the door? Through the window it almost looked like a car from the War Department.”
“It was a car from the War Department.”
“What did they want? Lila? Are you okay?”
“They said… they said that Ray was alive… that he would be coming home…”
“What?! Ray is ali… Whoa! Steady, steady. Let’s get you over to the couch and we’ll sit down. Here, take my handkerchief. Now, tell me everything they said.”
“They said that Ray has been in a coma all this time. He’d lost his dog tags in the enemy attack, so the Army didn’t know who he was until he woke up.”
“Is he alright?”
“He’s partially paralyzed, but he’s alright. And Mick – he’s coming home tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow?”
“Yes, tomorrow. I can’t believe it! He’s alive! Look at me – I’m a mess! The house is a mess! I want everything perfect. I’ll have to call… oh, but wait. What does this mean for us, Mick? For you and me?”
“It means you have your husband back. And I’ll… I’ll be leaving.”
“Now I don’t know if I’m crying happy tears or sad tears.”
“It’s the right thing – the only thing to do, Lila. I shouldn’t have let things get this far between us. I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry, Mick. It was wonderful. But now… please don’t go yet. Stay tonight.”
“I’ll stay tonight Lila. But I’m leaving first thing in the morning. I’m happy for you. For both of you. I really am.”
