MLC you always have a wonderful way of dealing with the soldier/veteran part of Mick. This ring was something positive that came out of the war and I'm glad he didn't turn his back on it.

You have presented yet another imaginative and well written tale of the ring, MLC.

Love how you took the moments after Josh's death as the portal for Mick to recall the past and how he acquired the ring. The violence of Josh's death brought back the violence of war. While he questions whether he did all he could to save Josh, the ring is a reminder that he is a good man and of the good he has done in the past. It's one of the few links he has and wears that reminds him of his own humanity.

I'll echo Lucy's thanks for giving WWII Mick a voice.

Oh wow, this is great, and really touching back story for Mick's ring. You portrayed Mick's emotions really well. :hearts:

I like this look back at pre-vampire Mick.

Thanks for the bump and rereading, Carol! It gave me a chance to reread it as well. Made me tear up, too.

I'm not sure how I missed commenting on this back when it was first posted. :blushing: Image I'm so thankful that your most recent story made me go looking for it

MLC, this is just wonderful! I absolutely love this origin story for Mick's ring. :notworthy: I've never really subcribed to the idea that he got the ring from Coraline. To me, it just had to have been a link to his humanity and this story makes that connection beautifully and quite believably. I love that there is a little girl involved and that Mick's inherent goodness and natural heroism were what brought the ring to him in the first place. And even though he was never able to pass the ring down to his own heirs, it was a strong and abiding connection to who he always had been.

Thank you Lilly for the bump! I'm happy you enjoyed the reread. Even as the years go by, Mick wants to keep that connection - a simple heirloom - of what he once was. And who he was. The ring is a part of him now.

Aww, I love this "missing scene with a flashback in the middle." It feels like a bit of canon. :hearts: I love that Anne gave Mick bread to share with his buddies, and especially that she gave him the St. John cross ring. What a poignant memory! And definitely a link to the man he once was, and strives to be again. :hearts: I'm so glad you had the idea to bring it up again. :rose:
