Judge Henry Malkin was fond dead upon arrival in his mansion in Beverly Hills. Lt. Carl Davis walked through the spacious home. Judge Henry Malkin was an old school hard ass Judge. He was most famous for keeping a Louisville slugger bat behind the bench and threatening counsel and criminals alike if he felt they got out of hand. He was intelligent, strict and colorful. A real media darling. Finding him in his present undignified state made Carl’s stomach turn. Someone just didn’t want the Judge dead; they wanted him to be humiliated. He walked over to the Medical Examiner.
“What you got?” he said sadly.
“Nothing good. The Judge took one 22. caliber shot to the temple. No exit wound, so the bullet is still in there. I’ll know more once I get him on the table. But the interesting thing is this.” He said holding up a small evidence bag.
“What the hell is that?” Carl said staring at the bag.
“That is a condom. Used. It seems the Judge was shot while…..well you can guess” He said.
“You think the woman was a pro?”
“Most likely” he replied motioning for the paramedics to take the body away.
“The press is going to have a field day with this one” he said.

“You look like you can use a drink” Mick said when he opened the door for Carl.
“Did you hear the news?” Carl asked as he sat down on the sofa.
“Yeah. Judge Malkin” Mick said pouring two equal measures of whiskey and handing one to Carl. “you got anything so far?”
Carl took a long drink.
“Well, the Judge was wearing a condom, which suggest that he was having a sexual encounter when he was shot”
“So you’re thinking a working girl?” Mick asked.
“Yes and no. It looks that way, but the Judge had a lot of expensive stuff in his house. Including his wife’s jewelry. Nothing was touched.”
“Maybe it was someone he got a little too rough with. You know, she jumps up grabs the piece out of her bag and shoots him”
“Yeah…..that’s a possibility”
“Where is the wife?”
“Carmel City. At some exclusive spa. Her and her girlfriends go the same time each every year.”
“So someone knew that the judge would be alone?”
“Right”
“Well that gives us something to go on” Mick said with a smile.

Dominique Malkin nee’ Dominique Samson was a paparazzi favorite. She owned her own interior design firm that catered to all the big wigs in Los Angeles. Judge Henry Malkin 25 years her senior was decorating his home and hired Dominique’s firm then called “Grand Designs” for the job. In all of three weeks the old man was in love. And in another three weeks they were wed. All who knew the Judge said it was because he was old and lonely and had been since losing his first wife to cancer. Dominique although no one thought she was a gold digger, but the difference in their ages was enormous. Then of course there was her beauty. She was a tall elegant black woman with long hair, high cheekbones and came from an exquisite background. Her parents were the late Honorable Edward and Emma Sampson of South Carolina. That old southern pedigree that Yankees found so appealing. She was schooled in private schools in London before finally heading back to the states after her parents were killed in a plane crash. She was always impeccably dressed and at the most fashionable events. She was once paired with George Clooney and then Blair Underwood. But found true love with an old judge of 59 years old.
And now he was dead.

“Did you hear about Henry Malkin?” Josef asked Mick.
“Yeah. Carl came over last night. I think he’s a little overwhelmed”
“Who wouldn’t be? Malkin was a big deal in Los Angeles. A more powerful Johnny Cochran. He’s going to have all kinds of heat on him to solve this case quick” Josef said.
“Did you know the Judge?” Mick asked. Josef looked up at Mick.
“What. You think I killed him?” he said with a smile.
“Did you?’ Mick said seriously.
“No. I had no reason to kill him. Never had much dealings with him. I ran into him from time to time at some charity function but other than that I’m clean.” Josef said holding up his hands. “What about the wife?”
“She was in Carmel City with friends at a spa” Mick said.
“Surrrre she was” Josef said laughing.
“What does that mean?” Mick asked suddenly.
“Dominique Malkin ain’t exactly a girl scout if you catch my meaning.” Josef said with a sly grin.

Dominique flew into Los Angeles the very next day. She met with the coroner who showed her the body. She shed a few delicate tears before grabbing a hankie out of her handbag and dabbing at her eyes.
She was lead to Lt. Davis’s office.
“Would you like a cup of coffee Mrs. Malkin?” Carl asked.
“No thank you. And you may call me Dominique” she said with traces of slight southern accent.
“Do you have any idea who may have killed your husband?”
“No! He was fine when I left. He said that he was going stay at home all weekend long and get some rest. Maybe catch a few holes of golf with Derrick and Jerry.”
“Derrick and Jerry?”
“Derrick Carter and Jerry Phillips. Long time friends of his. They always had a standing golf game on the weekends”
“I see. Did anyone have a beef with the Judge that you know of? Any threats?”
“Not that I know of, but he was a Judge. I’m sure there is bound to be someone unhappy about a verdict”
“Is there anyway we can look at your husband’s case files?”

Dominique dabbed at her eyes again and nodded her head.
“I will call his personal assistant and let her know that you will be coming by.” She said as she stood up.
“Thank you Mrs. Malkin. I am very sorry for your loss” Carl said shaking her hand.
She walked out and Carl watched the fluid grace of her movements. Everything about her was perfect. From her tailored suit, to her coach bag. Not a hair out of place. That kind of perfection made him uneasy.

Mick came walking into Carl’s office. He followed Carl’s eyes and saw the beautiful woman who was waiting for the elevator.
“Is that your girlfriend?” Mick asked with a smile.
“What?” Carl asked noticing for the first time that Mick was there. “No. That’s the widow” Carl said. Mick stared at him in shock.
“You’re kidding!?”
“Nope. One of those May/December kind of things” he said absently.
“Well it might just be one of those money type of things” Mick said. “A source of mine said that Dominique is or was known as a party girl. Went to a lot of wild parties did a lot of drugs and even turned a few tricks”
Carl looked up sharply at Mick.
“Are you serious?”
“Yeah” Mick said nodding his head.
“How long ago?”
“5-10 years give or take”
“Who’s this contact?” Carl asked wondering if the information was legitimate. Mick didn’t say anything and Carl knew that the information came from Josef which meant it was good.

I like the fact that Carl and Mick and friends and that Carl knows.

Not every May/December marriage is based on money. There can be a lot of reasons. My first thought, and I have no idea why my mind went there, was that Dominique may have a lot of dead bodies in her past, but that doesn't necessarily mean she was responsible for them. It also doesn't necessarily mean that she isn't.

Looking forward to seeing where this goes next!

Thank you

Dominique walked around her home. The police had left it in shambles. She walked up the large staircase and stood in front of the bedroom that she had shared with the judge. The sheets had been taken away as evidence. She quietly shut the door behind her and walked away.

There was something about that woman that struck Carl as…..off. He couldn’t put his finger on it, but he decided to run a background check on Dominique anyway. It wouldn’t hurt to rule her out as a suspect. He submitted the information in the computer then decided to call it quits for the night. He’d grab the information in the morning.

He walked out of the police station and saw the woman herself walking up the stairs.
“Mrs. Malkin? What are you doing here? Is everything alright?” Carl asked.
“I’m sorry Lieutenant, I left so abruptly, I didn’t get a chance to thank you for all you’re doing” She said.
“No thanks are needed. That’s my job” He replied.
“Well, I’d like to thank you with an offer of dinner. I’d like to discuss the case with you as well.” She said in shy voice.
“Mrs. Malkin, I appreciate the offer but you have to understand that…”
“We are discussing catching the killer of my husband Lieutenant, we’re not dating” she relied in a firm voice. Carl nodded his head.
“Alright” he said finally. And stepped into her chauffeured car.

They were driven to Morton’s and were seated at the best table immediately even though the place was packed. After their drink orders were placed Dominique placed her hands in front of her on the table.
“Alight Lieutenant, I want to know if you have any leads” she said.
“Mrs. Malkin, at the moment we have no definite leads, but we are still waiting for the Medical Examiner’s report”
“What will that tell you?” she asked taking a demure sip of her wine.
“Well in addition to the type of weapon that was used we need to determine the time of death and then find out what he was doing before that time.”
“I’m sure I don’t need to stress how quickly I would like this monster found”
“No”
“Very well then. So tell me about yourself Lieutenant. Are you from Los Angeles?”
“No. I moved here after college, but I consider LA my home. What about you?” Carl said trying to get information from her.
“Oh, my life is an open book since I married the judge”
“It’s a book I haven’t read” he replied.
“Trust me. It’s not a very interesting book on any account” she said nonchalantly taking another small sip of wine.
“Why don’t you tell me anyway? I’d like to hear it” Carl pressed.
“Very well. I grew up in South Carolina. My father was a judge as well. My parents were very proud of their heritage. As you know the Samson name is a huge deal in the South. I had to adhere to the typical life of debutante balls and etiquette. I was sent to boarding school in London and had planned on staying there permanently until my parents died.” She said in a sad voice.

“I’m sorry” Carl said.
“Thank you Lieutenant. It was hard to deal with at first. But I decided to come back to the states. There were lots of papers to sign and of course the funeral arrangements. Then of course I found out about my fathers gambling problem. There was barely anything left for a proper burial” she said in disgust.
“Again I’m sorry” Carl said. He studied the beautiful woman. It was strange that she went from sympathetic about her parent’s death to outrage over the amount of money that was left. Something was really off about this woman he thought again.

“Thank you for dinner” Carl said as they headed back to the police station so he could pick up his car.
“You’re welcome Lieutenant. And if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call me” she said handing him her business card and letting her fingers gently glide over his hand.

Carl got out the car and watched her car drive away. Surely she wasn't flirting with him? Her husband wasn’t even in the ground yet?

Interesting. Keep going.

There still isn't enought to convict her of anything, but there are hints. A lot of money doesn't necessarily buy happiness, still to assume a certain economic status would always be available and to find that it wasn't could have strange effects on a person.

Carl will get to the bottom of it.

Mick decided that he needed to enlist the talents of Ted Ferguson, researcher extraordinaire.
“Hey Ted, Mick St. John. If you aren’t busy, I need you to look into something for me.” Mick said.
“Sure thing. Who’s the guilty party?” he said with a chuckle.
“Dominique Malkin formerly known as Dominique Samson of South Carolina. Parents were Edward and Emma Samson.”
“Okay. Got it. Give me till tomorrow”
“Thanks a lot Ted” Mick said and hung up. Might as well check everything he thought to himself.

Ted walked over to Samantha’s desk. Samantha was a hacker friend of Beth’s who had worked with her at Buzzwire. She now shared research duties with Ted. Between the two of them no secret was a secret for long.
“Hey Sam, I got a big fish” Ted teased.
“Good, I’m bored with this legal shit” she said under her breath. Ted sat the piece of paper in front of her. He watched her eyes grow wide.
“Oh my Ted! That is a big fish indeed” she said with a grin and started to type away.

The medical examiner handed Carl the lab results. The Judge had no drugs or alcohol in his system and the spermacide from the condom had destroyed any trace of DNA. But the time of death was between 9pm and midnight. Carl looked over the information and laid the file down on his desk. Nothing there. The phone records from the Judge’s phone however, showed three calls to the same number placed at 9:30pm. He called the number.
“Happy Companion Services” a seductive female voice said.
“What’s your address?” Carl said.
“6015 W. Sunset Blvd.” the voice replied.
“Thank you” Carl said and hung up. Happy companion sounded like a front for prostitutes he thought to himself.

Carl drove the short distance to Hollywood and found the shabby offices of the Happy Companion Service. He straightened his tie and walked in hoping to look like a perspective customer.
The perky receptionist looked up quickly and pushed a clipboard in front of him.
“We are totally legit” she said brightly “And cops get 35% off our companion services”. Carl gave it up. He would always look like a cop.
“I need to know who you sent to this number on this date and this time” Carl demanded placing the sheet of paper underneath her nose. The girl glanced at the sheet then went to her computer.
“Lacey Sinclair” she said.
“And where is Lacey Sinclair?” The receptionist shrugged her shoulders.
“I dunno. She’s off today”
“Ok. Where does Lacey Sinclair live?”
The receptionist jotted down the address and slid it over.
“Thank you” Carl said and walked out the door.

He drove to seedy motel not far from the Happy Companion Office. He flashed his badge to motel manager.
“I need to see Lacey Sinclair. What room number?” Carl asked.
“802” the man grumbled.
Carl found the hotel room and the door was open. He walked slowly inside. The room was clean and neat, as if no one had been staying here at all. Either that or she checked out. he went back to the manager.
“Did Lacey Sinclair check out?” Carl asked.
“Nope. She’s paid up through the end of the week” he said taking a long drag on his cigarette.

“Shit” Carl said. Another dead in.

“What am I supposed to be looking for?” Samantha asked becoming frustrated. “This woman is practically a saint!”
Ted looked over at her from over his computer.
“I have no idea, but if Mick is asking for information, then the woman is definitely no saint” Ted said. There had to be something. And if there was, he was going to find it.

Carl went back to the police station and saw that Dominique was there waiting for him.
“What are you doing here?” Carl asked looking around.
“I wanted to report a possible break in” she said. Carl led her into his office.
“Okay. Tell me what happened”
“It was after I dropped you off. I went straight home and got ready for bed. I heard someone jiggling with the lock and the back door. The alarm system went off and I hear the person or persons run away.”
“Did the police come?”
“Yes someone was there in about 5 minutes and they checked the lock and it had been tampered with. But if this is the same person that murdered my husband, I don’t feel safe in that house” she said and Carl could see the tears collecting in her beautiful brown eyes.
“Alright Mrs. Malkin. I’m going to assign a couple of uniforms to your house until we find the murderer. Okay?”
“Thank you Lieutenant. I’m sorry to be such a bother”
“It’s not a bother at all.” He said. “Listen, I don’t want you going out alone. Call a friend. Call a few friends. Have a girl’s night. Anything. You got it?”
She nodded her head slowly and took her leave. She stopped and turned back around.
“Do you think you could stop by later this evening? Just to check things out?” she asked.
“Of course.” He replied. Dominique gave him a shy smile and walked away.

“Well, looks like our little miss Dominique attended the exclusive Kingston Grammar School then went to college at Oxford completed her degree in Art History and then after that she just kind of fell off the grid so to speak until her parents died.” Ted said.
“Look!” Sam exclaimed. “I found her yearbook photo from Oxford.” She said enlarging the photo. “Not very attractive” Sam said with a laugh. Ted stared at the photo.
“Not very attractive at all. I was under the impression that she was some great beauty”
“Maybe she grew out of it. Or maybe she had some work done. Most women with money do things like that.” Sam said with an indifferent shrug.

Carl pulled up to the large mansion. First he checked around back. He didn’t see any footprints but the lock had been obviously jimmied. And by someone who had no knowledge of picking locks.
What they hell were they using? A knife? He made his way back to the front and rang the doorbell.
Dominique answered the door herself wearing loose silk pajamas. The champagne color of the material brought out the golden hue in her skin tone. Her long hair was pulled back into a sloppy ponytail which gave her an air of innocence. Carl stared at her and didn’t say a word.
“I know” she laughed. “Hardly the same elegance without the make up. Say hello to the real Dominique” she said and continued to laugh.
“Uh….no.. You look fine..I mean lovely..” Carl stammered.
“Well come on in. Would you like a drink Lieutenant?” she asked over s shoulder.
“Uh..It’s Carl.” He heard himself saying then hating himself for saying it. This wasn’t a date. He was here to make sure she was safe. Nothing more.
“Ok, Carl. How about a beer? That’s what I’m having” Carl looked over at her. He thought she would offer him something like a brandy or some other hoity toity drink.
“Yeah. A beer sounds good” He said walking around the spacious living room. She came out with two ice cold St. Paulie Girl’s.
“I hope you don’t mind drinking German. I think they make the best beer.” She said handing him one and taking a seat o the sofa.
“I think so too” he said in surprise.
“So did you find anything interesting?”
“Well, the lock was tampered with. Most likely by an amateur by the looks of it. But I've got two uniforms parked on the street. If they see anyone they'll take em’ down” He said taking a long drink of the beer which felt very refreshing.
‘Thank you Carl. I really appreciate this. I know what everyone must think of me. The gold digging younger woman who marries a much older man” she sighed.
“Hey, I’m not passing judgment” Carl said. Dominique waved her hand.
“It’s okay. But honestly, I guess I saw a little bit of father in the judge. He made me feel safe” she said in an absent way as if her mind was far off.
“I suppose all women look for a little bit of their fathers in the men they marry.”
“You on the other hand are nothing like my father” she said with a coy smile.
“Is that a good thing or a bad thing?” Carl asked.
“I’m not sure yet” she said.
Carl finished his beer then stood up.
“Well thank you for the beer but I better get going. I want you to make sure all your doors and windows are locked. And make sure you arm your security system as soon as I leave.” He said walking for the door.
‘Carl, again. Thank you so much” she said giving him a small hug. And when he was pulling out of her embrace she turned her face towards him and kissed him. Lightly and briefly on the lips. She looked at him for another moment then lost herself to the moment and kissed him deeply. Her arms wrapping around his waist holding him tightly.

Kissing Carl would not have been that bad if her husband had not just died under questionable circumstances. As it is, that is not the usual behavior of any of the grieving widows I have ever run into.

He may have gotten a glimpse of the real Dominique. Then again, he may have just met a woman who has the central grounding influence in her life taken away.

Again.

Looking forward to more!

Thank you!

Carl knew this was wrong. He stood back from Dominique.
“Listen, this is wrong. I can’t do this. I’m investigating the death of your husband…..”
“You’re right. I’m very sorry Lieutenant. Forgive me” she said holding her head down.
“Lock up tight okay. And remember the officers outside will be keeping watch all night”
Dominique nodded her head and quietly shut the door. Carl stood there for a few seconds. He had never gotten involved with a suspect before. But there was something about this woman….something that he couldn’t explain.

Ted and Samantha worked most of the night trying to get more information on Dominique.
“Listen, I don’t think we’re going to find anything here in the states. I think if there’s anything worth finding, its going to be in London” Ted said rubbing his eyes.
“Well, we can start with this picture. The more I look at it the more I’m convinced that these are two different people” Sam said holding up the year book photo they pulled and a recent photo of Dominique that was taken at a fundraiser. Ted studied the two photos. Sam was right, there was no way this was the same woman.
“So we’re saying that the yearbook photo is the real Dominique Samson?” Ted asked.
“Right” Sam replied.
“So who is this?” He asked pointing at the other photo.
“That’s what we have to find out”

“Have you found out anything Mick?” Carl asked him.
“I’ve got Ted doing a more thorough search into Dominique’s background. If there’s anything to be found trust me, Ted will find it.” Mick said noticing that Carl didn’t seem like his usual self.
“What’s going on Carl?”
“It’s nothing…..really…it’s Dominique. She’s kind of hard to figure out” Carl tried to explain, but Mick could sense that he was falling for the woman.
“You’re falling for her” Mick said. Carl looked over at him sharply.
“I don’t think so Mick. The woman is a murder suspect”
“Doesn’t change the fact that you’re falling for her” Mick said with a smile. Carl got up and grabbed his jacket.
“I’m not!” he said as he walked out the door. Mick watched him leave.
“He is so falling for her” Mick said to himself.

“Guess what? Dominique Sampson was in a car accident in London” Ted said looking up from the screen.
“So what?” Sam said.
“When there is a car accident, people go to the hospital. When people go to the hospital….” Ted said
“They have medical records!” Sam said suddenly. “Hospital and location please” she said with a smile.
“Let’s see……Ok, here it is…Dominique Sampson was hit head on in a collision with another woman. Both badly injured and taken to King’s College Hospital”
“Got it” Sam said and began to hack into the hospital’s medical files. “Michelle Rubin was in coma due to hemorrhaging died a week later, and Dominique Sampson suffered a concussion and a broken arm but was released three days later.”
“Who was this Michelle Rubin?” Ted asked.
“She was American, if you can believe that. I mean what are the chances………ok, this is weird. According to her school medical records, Dominique is listed as 160 meters tall. That’s 5’3” but the hospital has her listed as 172.5 meters which is about 5’8.”
“What about Michelle Rubin?” Ted asked.
“160 meters exactly” Sam said.
“Holy shit!” Ted exclaimed. “Dominique Sampson is dead!” Ted ran to the phone to call Mick.

“Slow down Ted.” Mick said.
“Dominique Sampson the real Dominique died in London in a car crash. The woman who hit her is named Michelle Rubin. I think she took over Dominique’s identity”
“Ted are you sure?”
“Unless you can get someone to London in one hour and prove me wrong then yes” Ted said.

Wow!

Now there is an angle I didn't see coming but it is entirely plausible!

When Coraline showed up again as Morgan Vincent and there was a family in existence, I will confess to wondering if she just stepped into the life of a woman who resembled her, but in this case a resemblance isn't necessary. The death of the parents was a lucky break for our 'Dominique' but still really interested to find out what there is to find in London.

Looking forward to more!

Thanks!

“Ted I want you to keep digging” Mick said suddenly thinking of Carl. I‘ll contact you later” Mick took out his cell phone and called Brian. Hey Brian, it’s dad. I need you to call your guy at Consular Affairs and find out what you can about an American woman named Michelle Rubin, last known address somewhere in London”
“Will do Dad” Brian said and hung up and immediately rang Deacon Caulfield. “Deacon, this is Brian Petzer I need some information” He said in stoic tones.
“Of course Mr. Petzer”
“I need any information you can give me on an American woman by the name of Michelle Rubin. She spent some time in London. I wasn’t told the dates, but if she left from the States, then there should be some trail”
“There’s always a trail” Deacon said. “I will call you back within the hour” he said hanging up.

The wheels were beginning to turn and very soon the truth would be known.

Carl had been ducking calls from Dominique all day and now that she was calling for the fifth time, he was compelled to answer.

“Lt. Davis” he said
“Lieutenant, I’m glad to have reached you. Listen, I want to explain about last night….” She began to say.
“Mrs. Malkin, there’s nothing to explain. You’re grieving. Losing your husband has got to be tough.” He said in a dismissive way.
“Thank you…for being so understanding” she said letting the matter go. “I would like you to come by this evening, I came across some files in my husband’s office that you might want to take a look at.” She said. Carl thought for a moment.
“Any chance you can stop by the station and drop them off?” he asked not wanting to risk going over to her home again.
“I’m afraid I can’t. You see I have meeting all day with the attorneys handling my husband’s estate.” She said. Carl sighed deeply.
“Ok. I’ll be over there at 6pm.” He said hanging up.

Deacon Caulfield called Brian back as soon as he had the information in hand.
“Brian, Michelle Rubin, originally from Atlanta Georgia, applied for a passport in 1996. Travelled to London that same year. Applied for a work visa shortly after arriving. I pulled up a marriage license to a Gerald Kent in 1998. Another marriage license to a Simon Carrington, and another to Bradford Hollis.”
“Busy woman” Brian said
“Indeed”
“Thank you Deacon” Brian said then relayed the information to Mick.

Ted and Samantha worked all through the rest of the day.
“I think we got her!” Sam said turning her laptop screen around so Ted could see. “Michelle Rubin born in Atlanta Georgia in 1979, born to Lawrence and Yvonne Harris. Extensive juvenile records, from shoplifting to check fraud. Finally left home at age 17, arrived in London in 1996.” Sam said. “Here’s her passport photo” she said holding up to the photo they had of the present Dominique Malkin.
“Striking resemblance wouldn’t you say?”
“And check this out, she’s wanted for the murder of husband #3 Bradford Hollis.” Ted said.
“How did he die?” Sam asked frowning at her screen.
“A break in and robbery. He was shot while sleeping” Ted replied
“Well the woman is nothing but consistent. Husband #2 also died in a robbery attempt and husband #1 was shot during a mugging and I’m guessing that they were all rich and she got the all the cash”
“Looks that way. Bradford Hollis had a grown daughter who hired a private detective to look into her father’s murder. He concluded that Michelle worked with an accomplice since she was proven to be out of town when the murder occurred. He questioned a woman by the name of Lacey Sinclair. Lacey left London shortly after being questioned never to be heard from again. Then comes the accident. And Michelle Rubin is dead, at least according to the Police and Dominique Sampson comes home from London.” Ted said.

Ella

I have to admit, as far as evidence goes that looks pretty damning. She sounds like trouble and while the current death of the latest husband may or may not be due to her actions, she definitely has a history.

If I bend over backwards any further trying to let her off the hook I'm going to need a chiropractor.

Sorry Carl, try again...

Carl sat in his car wondering if he should go in or not. He knew that if he went in he wouldn’t be able to leave. Dominique had some kind of power over him which was becoming harder and harder to break. After sitting in his car for over an hour, he closed his eyes and opened the car door.

Dominique came to the door wearing nothing but a silk robe with her hair piled high on her head.
“I’m sorry Lieutenant, I was just getting out of the shower” she said in a quiet voice. Carl stood and looked at her for what seemed a long time then he gathered her into his arms and kissed her, shutting the door behind him.

Ted and Samantha presented all they had uncovered to Mick.

“What I don’t get is that after her three marriages, she was already loaded. Why go after the Judge? I mean how much money does she need?” Ted asked in wonder.
“I don’t think she kills for the money. She kills because she likes it. It’s now become like a drug for her. The power of life and death” Mick explained.
“Well she’s got enough money now to disappear for a very long time. Possibly forever” Sam said.
“That’s why we have to stop her now!” Mick said

Mick tried calling Carl’s cell phone several times, but it went directly to voicemail. Mick knew where he was. He was with Dominique.

Mick drove quickly to Dominique’s house and waited outside.
“That was unexpected” Dominique said with a lazy smile.
Carl gently brushed a lock of hair from her eyes.
“Yes. It was. But I’m glad it happened” Carl said looking down at her.
“This does complicate things somewhat” Dominique said.
“Look, I know that you didn’t kill the Judge, but I do have to find the person who did” Carl said suddenly wanting to believe that she had nothing to do with her husband’s murder.
“Thank you…..for believing in me” She said quietly and wrapped her arms around him tighter. Carl closed his eyes and enjoyed this moment. He didn’t want it to end, but something in the back of his mind told him that all things came to an end.
Mick tried calling Carl’s cell phone several times, but it went directly to voicemail. Mick knew where he was. He was with Dominique.
Mick drove quickly to Dominique’s house and waited outside.

The sun was beginning to come up and Mick got out of the car and walked up to the front door.

Dominique came to the front door.
“Yes. May I help you?” she said in a firm professional voice.
“Sorry to disturb you but I’m looking for Lt. Carl Davis. I was told that he was here keeping watch. I’m Mick St. John” Mick said extending his hand. Dominique looked at him for a moment before deciding to let him in.
“Please come this way” She said opening the door to allow him entrance. “The Lieutenant is in the kitchen having a cup of coffee. May I offer you a cup?”
“No thank you” Mick said. Dominique walked past him into the kitchen. Carl came out a moment later, with an expression of confusion and what looked to be guilt.
“What’s up Mick?” Carl said cautiously.
“I think I found our murderer” Mick said knowing that Dominique would hear every word.
“Who is it?” Carl said anxiously relieved that it wasn’t Dominique after all.
“Some guy who was picked up. Turns out he was robbing all the houses on this street. They caught him last night” Mick said. He listened while he talked and felt Dominique’s heartbeat slow down when he told Carl of the arrest. At that moment he knew that she had killed her husband.
“Well, let’s go talk to the bastard!” Carl said grabbing his jacket. Dominique came out as if on cue.
“Oh, you’re leaving?” she asked
“Mrs. Malkin, I think we caught your husband’s murderer. I think you’ll be safe now. I’m going to the station to interrogate the suspect. It might be wise for you to stay here until you hear back from me. Okay?” He asked. Dominique simply nodded her head as she watched the men leave, then she smiled to herself.

Well, Carl has fallen for the wrong person this time. Just like when Mick fell for the beautiful brunette in the red dress with the sparkler in her hand, he could see a lot better than he could think. Now, Carl is going to discover that the woman he fell for really doesn't exist.

Sad.

He deserves better.

Thank you!
