Dangerous Trails - Chapter 8 (PG-13)
Disclaimer: See chapter 1.
Chapter 8
Steve was at the end of his rope. Nothing that came out of Mick Jenkins’ mouth made any sense. It was as if the man didn’t even care how it looked, as if he was invincible. And he was right. There was no prove that Jenkins did anything wrong, despite the false documents and the curious details of the crash. Maybe with his fingerprints they could link him to the pilot’s death, as Charlie had found prints on the helmet that weren’t in the system. But that still would hardly make a case.
They still didn’t know who the people in the helicopter were, why they were flying over Ewa forest and who killed the pilot. They didn’t know why Mick lied about it. He took the print kit out of his trunk and ran back upstairs.
When he entered the room he saw a big native Hawaiian stand next to Beth’s bed. He was talking softly to the Jenkins. Steve thought he was strangely familiar.
As he made a step forward the man turned around.
Steve gasped. “Mamo?”

When the door opened Mick had expected Steve to come back, but then he caught a whiff of vampire. Immediately he took a stance in front of Beth and growled. The man coming in was a sixty-something native Hawaiian more than six foot high in a loud shirt and with a broad smile.
He took a step, closed the door and then just stood there. With a soft voice he said: “Calm down, Mick, I’m a friend of Josef’s. He sent me.”
Mick bowed his head. This vampire was old, very old, older than Josef by far. He needed to pay respect.
“My name is Mamo Kahike, you can call me Mamo. I’m here to help you deal with Five-0. I know them all personally and I’m sure we can convince them to leave you alone. Someone’s already getting pictures of the two Legion members and inserting false identities into the system for them. It will be proven that Pete is the one who killed the pilot.”
“What about the blood in the hotel room? McGarrett saw me heal. He also saw our false passports and knows that we didn’t meet the couple at the restaurant.”
“All in due time, son. First of all, you and your wife are in a witness protection program after you helped put away a crime boss. The paperwork is getting done as we speak. I have experienced more than once that people tend to forget details they can’t explain, or they explain them away. Steve won’t remember your healing if there’s no need for it. And…”
The door opened again.
Steve stood there, and when he saw the Hawaiian he gasped: “Mamo?”

Aha! I should have thought of Mamo. There is more dignity about him that befits a vampire compared to Kamekona.
But I gotta believe Mamo is wrong about Steve letting something go. Steve's a bulldog!!

I wonder if Josef knows that Mamo is older than he is. Josef does tend to believe he is the oldest and baddest of the bad. It sounds like things are now well in hand.
This is excellent!!!!
Thank you, Francis!!!

Wow! what a great idea to have Mamo be the contact....and he's older than Josef? Mick is going to owe Josef big time for this one.
It'll be fun to see how Mamo works his magic to make Steve 'forget'.

I'm glad that Mamo is going to help Mick and Beth out! It sounds like they need it!
So, the renegade Legion group told Mick and Beth that there were no vampires in Hawaii. This just proves how careless and out-to-lunch and they are.
Thank you, Francis!

I wanted to come back and mention that I loved the nod to the finale of Season 2.
"Mom?"
"Mamo?"
VERY clever, francis.

Oh, Francis, I have to confess that I missed the "mom" - "Mamo" reference, ... but it makes so much sense!

Josef has definitely called in a favor. It is hard to convince Steve.

Thank goodness Mamo is here to help. His calm demeanor and valuable connections sure will help. (and I'm sooo glad it wasn't shave-ice to the rescue. ).
