Personally, I think J-Lo's dress is looking a bit too heavily photoshopped. But then again, who's looking at her anyway when Alex is in the picture?? :melts:

There's a woman in the picture? No, seriously, this cover shows what the movie is about 100 times better than the detached over-white poster. He's truly connecting to her, she's mischievious, I finally see that she's having baby shoes behind her back and he's having roses for her - I don't know if I would have seen all this the same if I didn't know the movie but it really builds on their character.

And who am I kidding - he looks fabulous! :melts: :thud:

Box office update (overseas numbers from beyond-beautiful.org):

$37.0m USA
$33.3m worldwide

$70.3m total

So far in 2010, 231 movies have been released in the US; The Back-Up Plan is 35th in terms of box office. Given the budget, genre, and some of the huge films released (Iron Man, Toy Story, etc. etc.) I really think that the film's performance has been unfairly talked down by commenters (who have repeatedly called it a flop). Obviously I have no idea about industry perceptions or CBS's expectations, but as a regular punter, I'm delighted. $70m bucks FFS!!!

Totally agree!!! :hyper2: :hyper2: :hyper2:

Note that some of the critics who initially dismissed it, did something of an about face saying it should be seen. Face it, most movie critics are men and most men just aren't into rom-coms.

As for CBS' expectations, I'd say they were pretty happy with the movie's performance after the disappointing showing of the first movie out of CBS Films 'Extraordinary Measures'. That film was shuffled to the post position out of the studio in place of BUP. With two recognizable Hollywood names (Harrison Ford, Brendan Fraser) as leads, the film grossed $14.9 Million worldwide. BUP pulled in nearly that much ($12.2 Million) its opening weekend, a little below the $15 million the studio was looking for. Even so, not bad for a rom-com with limited name recognition. Sure, J-Lo was the name people recognized, but there are quite a few more now that know who Alex O'Loughlin is.

If they had used the poster on the DVD cover (at the top of this page), a few more would have known as well.

As the movie has now aired in all the major markets, I'm moving this into the "Past Projects" forum.
