Alex O'Loughlin: Moonlight's Mick "Has Been Laid to Rest"
Sorry, Moonlight fans: Mick St. John will not be resurrected.
Despite valiant efforts from die-hard fans to bring the beloved but short-lived series back to life on the small or big screen, Alex O'Loughlin says that story is over.
"That's a [executive producer] Joel Silver question, but as far as I know, no. It's done. It's over. Mick St. John has been laid to rest," he tells TVGuide.com.
That doesn't mean the show's cancellation was painless, especially since Moonlight was "doing well" ratings-wise. "It's a bit of a sad situation, a sad story for me. Of course, I love that show. I put everything into it. But what are you going to do?" he says. "That's what we do as actors. We put 100 percent into things from the screen test on. It's the most bizarre job in the world: You put 150 percent into it and then you walk away."
The Aussie hunk hasn't walked away from TV or CBS, as his new medical drama, Three Rivers, premieres Sunday at 9/8c. O'Loughlin plays Dr. Andy Yablonski, a preeminent transplant surgeon, on the series, and he hopes his Moonlight fans will hop onboard even without any vampire appearances.

Gotta love TV Guide and their devotion to Alex.
There's nothing new here but it's still sad. Almost as sad as seeing Alex use the phrase "150 percent".

I've always been a bit of a wishful thinker when it comes to more ML in some form. I kinda know it's never gonna happen but I can wish for it.
The articles that use the "ML is no more" route to promote Alex and his new projects still just make me a little sad. I think we've all got the message by now.
Loving TVG for it's continued support of Alex though.

Re: TVguide: Moonlight's Mick "Has Been Laid to Rest"
I think people are totally reading too much into his comments. He has been saying, for several months now, that more ML isn't up to him; it is up to Joel, it is Joel's property. He has hinted all over the place he'd do it if Joel got serious about it. But His Sartorial Splendor has been way too busy making bomb movies to turn his attention to OUR show, which he didn't pay enough attention to in the first place.
Alex has never said he'd never do it... even at the WO premiere, he told the reporter chick to ask Joel.
So we have no idea what Alex would do if given the chance of a movie... and nor does he. It would depend on how his tv show is doing and what kinda green they offered him... Bruce Willis keeps saying no more Die Hards before another one gets made... so it would come down to the details, and by details I mean money, should JOEL ever make a move to make a movie... which HE hasn't. This is on Joel, not on Alex...
And if Alex has decent people (call me, honey!)... he oughta ask for Fort Knox to do it... after all those @$$holes put him thru.

And I agree, it's all on Joel, who has said bupkus on the subject. As you say, Grace, he's too busy making crappy movies.

I think what Alex doesn't know, is that for many of us, Moonlight will never die. We may not see it with Mick's handsome face, or Josef's, on screen again, but here...the story hasn't ended.
And may it never end. As long as we have our writers, we will have Moonlight.

I'm pretty faithful in thanking TVG every time they feature Alex - someone there loves him as much as we do.
Still, statements like "Mick St. John has been laid to rest" make me unbelievably sad. Feels like the ones that love Mick are being laid to rest as well.
Edited to change tense. I will always love Mick!

Re: TVguide: Moonlight's Mick "Has Been Laid to Rest"
Grace is spot on. I wish people would stop asking Alex the question he can't answer. Joel Silver should be bugged. I dearly wish he'd either do something with the property or let it go, but - for better or worse - it's his call.wpgrace wrote:I think people are totally reading too much into his comments. Not that my heart didn't break a bit with the "has been laid to rest" line. Sigh...

Thank you, grace.
You're absolutely right.

Don't get me started on Joel Silver. UGH.
Clueless, that man.
Anyway...Mick, Beth, Josef, Coraline, Josh, Logan, Lt. Carl, etc. will NEVER be laid to rest. Not with fanfic, banners, icons, the DVD, reruns on Sci-Fi, etc. WE keep that show alive...and by gawsh, we ALWAYS did. Alex helped. Hehe.

I think the underlying funk some people have been filling lately is precisely because Alex is clearly is moving on...as he should...but I still feel like

But I agree with grace and would add that Alex is there to talk about his new project and wants to keep the focus on that. Out of sheer necessity, saying what he did ends that part of the conversation and gets back to where it should be. In alot of ways I wish people would stop asking him about it.
Based on what Trevor has said, I think it's actually Warner Brothers who owns the characters and who knows? maybe a movie is a possibility at some point... but I also agree with everyone else here that ML somehow has transcended the BS -- this may sound ridiculous but I do believe there is a little corner of the universe/collective unconscious where Moonlight is alive and well and isn't going anywhere.

And here I thought I was the only one.

I'm not usually one to beat a dead horse, but I REALLY don't like the feeling marginalized because of my love for Moonlight. I adore Alex and am a dedicated fan, but I wouldn't be if it hadn't been for Mick.
