ML Locations: Episode 9 - Fleur de Lis
Moonlight Locations: Fleur de Lis
I will only be listing locations we haven’t seen before.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
1. Street scene, outside Morgan’s apartment – New York St., Warner Bros. Studios backlot, Burbank, CA
The building used for Morgan's apartment is on the left. It's been painted brown in the past year, but is still recognizable from the shape and placement of the windows.
Below is a photo of how it looks in the WB website.

2. Restaurant – Embassy Courtyard, Warner Bros. Studios backlot, Burbank, CA
The Embassy Courtyard was also used for Sancerre Restaurant in Click.

3. BuzzWire exterior – New Wave Entertainment, 2660 W. Olive Avenue , Burbank, CA 91501
Believe it or not, this establishing shot is the first time we see BuzzWire’s exterior. The adjacent ground-level parking lot we see here is at odds with the parking garage we saw at the end of "Arrested Development."
(Thanks to Alle for this shot, which was taken at a better angle than mine.)
It’s interesting to note that the modernistic glass exterior is just a façade, set a couple of feet in front of the actual painted brick exterior walls of the building.

4. Plaza – LA Central Library/Maguire Gardens – 630 W. 5th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90071
Mick and Morgan entered the park from the west corner off of S. Flower Street and walked past the Peace Bell...
There no newsstand in Maguire Gardens – that was brought in for the shoot.

5. Haggans’ office – So. California Edison Building, “One Bunker Hill,” 601 West 5th Street, Los Angeles, CA
The historic Southern California Edison headquarters building opened in 1931 and was the first all-electric commercial building in the western United States. The gorgeous Art-Deco lobby is detailed with 17 varieties of marble, and it was this distinctive feature that helped me track it down as the location used for Haggans Industries.
The area used for the main entrance to Haggans' "upper level" executive office space is actually on the first floor just past the elevators. Right now the area is configured for banking, but unused. A sign indicates that the space is available for rent as a bank. For the shoot, they added the Haggans Industries sign and “etched” emblem on the doors.
The interior of the executive office area was filmed in a large office space off the lobby to the right of the reception desk. This area was locked so I was unable to get the angle used on the show. Also, I had to take pictures through the glass door -- unfortunately, there's quite a bit of glare and reflection in these shots.
Elevator details:
When Owen and Tina exited the elevator, they actually headed away from the front entrance and towards the back of the elevator lobby.

6. Biltmore Hotel – Millennium Biltmore Hotel, 506 South Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90071 -- Website: Link
Although the hotel’s address is listed as South Grand Avenue, this shot is taken from the Pershing Square/Olive St. side of the building. The entrance here opens into the grand Rendezvous Court, which served as the original lobby for the hotel. Although not used in Moonlight, this space has been used in many television and film productions.
The view: (my shots were taken from the 9th floor)

8. Street outside Haggans Building— Hope Place (outside US Bank Tower), Los Angeles, CA
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The downtown locations used in this episode are all in close proximity to one another – just a few blocks apart. It’s an easy walk and well worth it, if you’re in the vicinity.
Here’s a Bing Maps aerial view of the area:

I never realized that Mick's FOS is so near to the Biltmore. It's even in one of the screencaps. Bad fan for not seeing that before. And there goes the chance that Morgan was able to drive in Mick's Benz. They probably walked the distance. Pity.

Lilly, these are simply amazing! Thank you soooo much for putting together all this information. I love the Bing map that shows the locations; it shows how convenient everything is. I'm sure they picked places close together so they could do a bunch of shooting all in the same day, but man--it's fascinating to see how VERY close those things are to each other!

Re: ML Locations: Episode 9 - Fleur de Lis
Visually this was my favourite episode and it's fabulous to see some of the buildings and locations in more detail. I love the library plaza shots (that whole sequence is just ) - and the library building itself it lovely, especially the roof (or that may be the building behind).
The interior shots of the Edison building are stunning - the ceilings and elevator interiors are beautiful.
As for the Biltmore, that interior looks SO familiar! Now you've got me pondering where else I've seen it...

Well, she did get to ride in the Mercedes in "The Ringer." And they did have to get back and forth from her apartment -- wherever that was supposed to be...francis wrote:I never realized that Mick's FOS is so near to the Biltmore. I'm sure it was economical in terms of permits and hauling equipment around. That's actually one of the things that has helped me track down some of the less obvious locations. Just by doing a little research and looking around the vicinity of other locations in an episode, I've been able to find some of the "mystery" places.allegrita wrote: I'm sure they picked places close together so they could do a bunch of shooting all in the same day, but man--it's fascinating to see how VERY close those things are to each other!
Thank you, Albra. I've had a blast doing this. :curtesy:Albra wrote:I'm struck dumb with admiration at your effort ...
Red - the beautiful roof cap that you see is the crowning glory of the library. And, according to the Millennium Biltmore website, Rendezvous Court was used in Daredevil, Beverly Hills Cop, the Nutty Professor, 24 and Heroes. Hope that helps.

Re: ML Locations: Episode 9 - Fleur de Lis
Lovely shots! They really did film a lot downtown in the same vicinity. It's nice to tour this area because it's all the sites are within walking distance of each other.
I can't remember if I told you but I was in LA looking at up the FoS and I saw a lecturer giving a talk on to a group of 10 people on art deco architecture, using the FoS as an example. Later I saw that same group come out of a building. So I went in the door they were leaving and lo and behold I came across the FDL elevator. I was so surprised! It didn't look like anybody was using the ground floor office, and I wondered if anybody occupied the building on the other floors even. I wonder if the building is just kept for historical purposes. I didn't see any tenants using the elevator at all. It was very desolate.
I'll be on the lookout for these set of elevators in other series because I'm sure they must film lots of shows here, especially since no one occupies that ground floor office.

Lilly, I love what you are doing here. The time and effort it takes is awe inspiring. I'm glad you're enjoying yourself because I'm sure enjoying it vicariously!
Thanks to this thread I recognize individual buildings in the LA skyline whenever a show takes place there. I never even paid attention to such things before ML.
Thank you!

The Embassy Courtyard Restaurant scene is also used as the exterior of Sarah's dad's, Whitley, apartment building.

Drop Dead Diva uses the Pershing Square aerial view to hone into the Biltmore as the Law offices for the main character.
I caught the FOS in the periphery and it made my heart skip.
More proof that life revolves around ML!
