Just got back from the film. I enjoyed it (OK, I reeeeaaaly enjoyed Alex) and converted a couple of folks. One said "I thought you said he was from Australia or something."

I like rom coms. A little fluff is good. And Alex just rocks... Really, are y'all sure he wasn't a chemistry major? He sure has great chemistry. :snicker:

Hi Grace! I wore a huge smile. Some might even say cheesy. :teeth:

Just got back to my friend's after seeing the movie. I actually LOVED it - and will add it to my collection when it comes out. And not just because it has Alex. I think he did a great job and I am hoping he acquires more work & appreciation from this. Oh - wardrobe was Jean capris, Disney tshirt (and earrings :snicker: ) athletic shoes. Casually dressed because I was 'on the road' today.

First...thank you, darling Grace. :smooch: I feel more validated now as Queen of the "Alex is Talented, Too!" club. :teeth:

Just got back from the movie. (I wore jeans, a white sweater, boots and a leather jacket. It's still :beep: cold here)

I went to the 7:40 show here...the theatre was by no means full (maybe half full), but the audience seemed pretty engaged. Mr. PNW liked it, and I very much liked it. There were some definite laugh-out-loud moments (the mister and I HOWLED during the birthing scene), and Alex. Was. Wonderful. Sweet and passionate and confused and scared...he totally sold Stan. And seeing him on the big screen... :melts: The ladies in front of me were turning around and laughing at me during that scene with Stan on the tractor - apparently I got a little over-enthusiastic in my admiration for Alex.

I have to agree with Karen - the beginning seemed choppy and rushed, but it seemed to even out as the movie went along. JLo was really good, and the chemistry between her and Alex was believable and sweet.

What disappointed me slightly was the lack of some of the scenes we've seen in clips - seeing what I've seen and having some of it missing in the movie increased the feeling of choppiness to me. But...it wasn't the worst rom-com I've seen and I'm baffled at a 1 1/2-star rating. :confused2:

If someone I know wants to go see it, I will definitely go again and I'll be first in line to add this to my Alex collection when it comes out in DVD. All in all, Alex did good and I'm hoping this gets some more eyes on him.

I'm home after watching it with five of my girlfriends. We went to a fancy theater and it was less than half full for the 7:30 show. :sigh: But the audience really reacted to the movie... I agree about them not having seen all the promos... they laughed and gasped and "aww"d and everything, all in the right spots.

My girlfriends, who think I'm a nutcase fangirl but who love me anyway, were all very appreciative of the movie and every one of them said they liked it. :flowers: Alex was perfectly lovely... as was Jennifer Lopez... :rose: and Linda Lavin, Tom Bosley, and Anthony Anderson were great. :twothumbs:

I wore Diane Von Furstenberg jeans and a black long-sleeved v-neck tee, black boots, and black-opal-and-silver jewelry. I hope I did OK, fashionistas...

Early box office numbers - looks like BUP will win the weekend. Nikki Finke's headline seems unusually gleeful (and over the top) to me, but, she is on record as NOT being a JLo fan: http://www.deadline.com/2010/04/jennife ... both-bomb/

I'll wait and see how the final numbers play out. Mostly, I'm just glad y'all enjoyed the movie.

GA checking in for BUP role call.

I thought the movie was pretty damned good - better than I expected it to be. There were numerous laugh out loud moments (and I listed to the rest of the audience just to make sure it wasn't just me being over-eager). My theater was full. There were even people having to fill in the very front rows. Lots of smiles and residual laughter as everyone got up to leave. In my book, that makes a movie a success.

BUP got some great advertising so I've seen the trailer, like, a zillion times. Usually, when that happens, those scenes tend to not be so funny anymore. But I have to say, they were - some even funnier since they were watched in context.

The chemistry definitely worked for me. They played off each other well. It went beyond just good acting - there seemed to be genuine affection. But the acting WAS good.

It helped too that besides Jen and Alex the rest of the cast were very good. I got a real kick out of Cloe's best friend, Mona. And I just loved Linda Lavin.

The birth scene had me laughing until I hurt. The orgasm scene nearly had me wetting my pants. Stan's expression and reaction was priceless.

And then there were those touching moments where the acting REALLY came through. There was some tearage. Which annoyed me because I didn't want to miss a moment of Alex because of blurry vision. :mdrama:

In this article, it looks like BUP is expected to come in 3rd in the box office this weekend with not such great numbers. But I predict that they'll come in at number 1. Not just wishful thinking (although I AM wishing pretty hard) - I'm basing it on the packed theater and the crowd's reaction. (I can live in the real world. Sometimes. :snicker:

A BIG thumbs up for BUP. :twothumbs:

So who is Nikki Finke and what is her issue? She sounds like someone who likes to just trash people. I saw two of the movies mentioned and it made me wonder if she has even seen the movies she rates.

One thing I noticed is that comments are monitered. The site says stay on topic and don't bore her. Is that code for all comments that disagree will be removed?

Nikki Finke is pretty connected in the Industry... therefore she wields power... therefore she is free to be an @$$ when she wants to be.

He IS talented. It's not his fault that his face and biceps and hands and smile and pecs and derriere and Voice are also so very very talented.

The gal being interviewed on MSNBC is predicting that BUP will win the box office battle this week-end. She repeats some of the reviews (man, I was not aware how brutal some of them were), but she said that JLo is extremely watchable and predicts the film will land at the top of the box office despite the critics panning it.
One critic said it was 'like watching birth control' What the hell was that person watching--it was more like watching friggin' Viagra in motion seeing Alex sweaty, shirtless and swoon-worthy!

Now that I've seen it... it is a female-centric movie. My husband will like it cause he loves JLo, and the birth scene... well, we didn't do a water birth and I didn't poop... but there is a reminder there of some issues he had. :rolling: So he'll laugh at that for sure... I'm not gonna tell him about it in advance... he can discover it on his own.

But I think for all those male critics... they just aren't getting it. She's a pretty girl with money and a business of her damn own. She doesn't NEED a man but she'd like one. And she WANTS a baby, for which you do, at least, need sperm. She is not the only such woman on the planet. Real women find themselves in this circumstance these days. The critics do not get it.

Now, that she meets ALex (Stan) of all the men on the planet. OK... that's just luck incarnate. But it's why I'm going to the frikkin theater multiple times. Guessing the critics don't quite get that either...

Grace--while I would have loved for the critics to like this movie, what I crave even more is research that shows that women are going to this movie--not just to see another rom-com, but b/c of Alex. That repeat viewings are b/c of the male lead. I bet your sweet bippy that is why most, if not all, women will be returning to the theatre. And I agree with you in thatfemale critics would have fallen more for the 'money shots' and the sheer emotional range that Alex displays.

I don't know if I will go and see it again--if it is still playing somewhere when my mom visits, I will see it again with her. I know that Mr Fleur would go with me if I asked him to. He would enjoy certain aspects of the water birth. No, I didn't have a water birth, but the other, um, thing that happened? Let's just say he will get a huge kick out of that scene!
Knowing me, in a few days I will be clamoring to go back and see Alex again.

Well I'll be leaving in about 20 minutes to see BUP. Wish me luck on the trains, NYC subways are always doing construction on the weekend.
