Thanks, francis Heartbreaking and heartwarming is a wonderful description. The year long anxiety of worried parents is replaced by joy the moment their son returns home to them.

I expect Mick probably was able to manipulate his mother with those eyes and that smile. We tend to play to our strengthsand it just stands to reason he learned to use those assets early.

Unfortunately, the trauma he experienced in war was faint to what he would encounter a bit further down the road.

Thank you for this glimpse into Mick's last human decade before he was Turned.

Thanks, Jenna I think you're right that Mick learned early on that he could make women melt, including his mother. His father on the other hand, could see himself in his son and understood when he was being manipulative. Now, however, as his son has returned from the war, wounded in both body and soul, his father knows how to best start the healing.

Love the new character point of view as well as the dead in the black characterization and subtleties of references to the family, the time, the bit-of-a-bad-boy that only a father can relate to, the family anxiety, gosh--the whole darn thing.
