I see you again, new and old. Different, but eternal. Unchanging.

My hopes rush, crushing past, present, future.

I know it'll be the same.
I know it. Deep down, in heart and soul, body and blood.
Even if you don't.

But the hope remains, undaunted by truth or life, death or dreams.

This time; maybe.

The swish of your hair, the curve of your smile, the ever-present hint of disdain you've never managed to hide.

You can't hide from me now. Not now, not ever. Our dance of pretence goes on, whirling, sucking, smothering, faster, fevered.

The sad, bitter songs of old love swirl around us now, their truth inescapable. We all think we write our own destiny, but we're no more than variations of the oldest story of all. Man and woman, right and wrong, good and evil, knowledge and deception. I play my part and you play yours. We can't change who we are or what we need.

Our story will go on, spirals of severed time, futures unwritten but inescapable.

We are part of each other.

For better.

For worse.

This sent chills down my spine...I can see Mick's eyes lock on Coraline and decades of love, longing and betrayal all come rushing back

THIS is what was written all over Mick's face when he was watching Morgan in the shower....all of it.

This line grabbed me:

Mick's loved Coraline, lived with her, seen into her soul. It doesn't matter how much she hides under Morgan - he still sees her.

Very plausible, thought not an entirely pleasant prospect.

For better or worse, they are in each others blood. Mick may move on, and in time Coraline may do the same but I think the addiction is mutual. The pull remains.

All that is needed is for their eyes to meet, as PNWgal said, and the connection flares to life. Intense, visceral and perhaps uncontrollable.

MmHmm. And that's a fact. Whatever they feel for each other at any given time, they are a part of each other - always will be. There is no escaping it. Mick and Coraline changed each other's lives, each becoming somewhat of a cornerstone of each other's future.

Who knows if they will ever be a couple again, if that could ever happen, but there will always be a wealth of emotion tied to the other.

Much as I love, and am intrigued by, Mick and Coraline, I can't really see them as a couple in the future. I think their story is far from over, but Mick's love for Beth (and his desire to have a different life and a different future) is so strong.

But, as long as they are alive, there are still stories to be told, I think.

Ohhhhhhhhh... you know I love this!

Here's the thing... they almost literally have forever. Who KNOWS what can happen with forever. But their connection, their mutual addiction which occasionally manifested as love, based on a lie, tested and battered by a betrayal and then a murder, nonetheless survived. As you have written here. We've seen this very moment. You portray it perrrrrrrfectly.

How many incarnations has Cora evolved into?
And Mick has now undergone a couple himself.
They almost literally have forever. How intriguing to ponder if they will ever be done with one another... I tend to think this relationship is literally a "til death do us part" thing... tho even then...

This is a beautiful little portrait of a very complicated, ongoing relationship. Their lives are braided together for better and for worse, twining in and out of each other, sometimes touching, sometimes not - but always connected. What a lovely piece of art you have created.
