Yay!!! Got my first Alex google alert--thank goodness I didn't have to figure out how to post it.
At least we know for sure that it will air in late April.
Hmmm, interesting how all these sites are buzzing about this guest starring role. Could there be more to the story?
Or is it that they know how desperate us Alex fans are for any info?
And they used one of the best Alex pix on this site!

Yay! It's excellent to see more news come out about the guest spot. It does seem a bigger deal than most guest spots
I'm afraid to get my hopes up about it meaning more as I don't want to be disappointed so for now I'm happy with the guest spot and anything that comes from it will be a huge, happy bonus

Not to rain on anyone's happy parade (and I'm in the happy parade), but according to a friend who watches CM regularly, there have been a few episodes from the killer's POV. And at least one where a killer reached out to the CM team for help...so, as she said to me, the novelty of this episode will be in its execution of the concept. And Alex is a hell of an actor, so...I'm betting that even if it's a little derivative, he'll knock it out of the park. But be prepared to have people who watch CM say that it's not new.
On the other hand, in the other episodes that were from the killer's POV, they cut away from the killer from time to time, to check in with what the BAU was doing. If they keep the focus completely on what Alex's character is doing for the whole episode, and the BAU is only there when they meet with him...that will be new. So this could be very interesting!

Is it common to get so many google alerts for Alex in one day?
I signed up for it only a few hours ago, and already I have received more than 3 alerts, with multiple listings, concerning his role in CM. The bloggers are busy!

I get no more than one per day, with all the websites that Alex's name occurs in. I don't get one every day, but most days. But only one. Hope this helps.

Well, the article mentions that the spin-off would be introduced via an episode in the upcoming season, and that's where Alex's episode is, so I think it's still a possibility. There does seem to be a bit of buzz happening about his ep, which I would have thought unusual for a guest star role. But I could be wrong, maybe the buzz is just because of the ML fan buzz that he garnered.starbucksjunkie wrote:dsr, you're probably right. I looked at the date from that article, and it's from July, so a lot could have changed. Still, I admit that it's fun to think about.darkstarrising wrote:thanks for the link...there are just so many possibilities, but I still think that if CBS stays true to formula, then the spin-off will resemble the current CM, but with a different ensemble cast and a slightly different flavor (note the three CSIs all have different 'feels' to them, but they're basically the same premise.)starbucksjunkie wrote:Yahoo!
I also found on another website that TPTB behind Criminal Minds are working on a spinoff.

Hmmmm. I wonder . . .
If Alex is to be a guest star in the current CM as a serial killer, then the only way I can see him being in a spin off is if his character reforms and wants to help the new unit...but there's a lot that has to happen between the time that the hunted becomes the hunter.
Having a spin off where the lead is law breaking seems a bit of a stretch for network TV.....but there are always possibilities.

Nothing new here really ^ but there's a poll as well:
Will you be watching Alex O'Loughlin on Criminal Minds?
Yes, I'll watch anything with Alex O'Loughlin! 48%
I'd rather see him on Moonlight. 20%
I'm watching Criminal Minds with or without Alex. 31%

In the spirit of speculation, here's an article (from July) about the proposed CM spin-off. Sounds a lot more interesting now!
http://www.buddytv.com/articles/crimina ... 20981.aspx
'Criminal Minds' Spin-Off in the Works
CBS is currently on the look out for a police procedural series that may follow in the footsteps of the CSI franchise. Enter Criminal Minds, the highly rated crime drama that follows the adventures of a team of profilers from the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) at Quantico, Virginia.
According to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, discussions are currently taking place between CBS and producer ABC Studios to expand the Criminal Minds franchise with an offshoot, as confirmed by show producer Ed Bernero.
"It's safe to say there will be something soon," Bernero revealed. "We had talked about it from the beginning, but something always got in the way of it happening… like Mandy [Patinkin] leaving and the strike. But it's definitely gaining momentum now."
The form of the spin-off has not been decided at this point, though one of the ideas being pitched in is a closer look at different specialties in the FBI.
“[They're] looking at all of the things the FBI does and how we can work that into the Criminal Minds world," Bernero said.
Whatever they decide on, the idea would likely be introduced during a special episode of Criminal Minds set to air later this coming season. Meanwhile, some questions remain unanswered. Will the show feature an all-new cast? And will there be crossovers?
"I don't think so," Bernero said of whether one of the show's current cast members will be singled out to headline the new series. "We're very happy with the team we have. On the other hand, it's possible characters could be on both shows… All options are open."
