Almost
“The beach is beautiful tonight.”
“It is. But, you know, we have to come here during the day sometime. There’s this great little cove just over that hill. My parents used to take me there a lot. It’s a perfect spot for a picnic. Great sun, beautiful waves. You’ll love it.”
“Hm.”
“It’ll be warmer then, too. Here, Coraline, take my jacket. You seem cold.”
“Thank you. Mick?”
“Yeah?”
“If…if I were to tell you something shocking about who I am, how would you react?”
“It would depend on what it was, I guess. But, with you, I’m starting to expect the unexpected. You keep me on my toes.”
“Are you complaining?”
“No! It’s one of the things I love about you.”
“Good. I’ll keep that mind.”
“So, what brought this up? Is there really something you want to tell me?”
“Maybe. I just need you to promise me something first.”
“Of course.”
“Promise me that no matter how crazy it sounds, you’ll trust me, and let me finish explaining before you start asking questions.”
“I promise. You can tell me anything, Coraline. I love you. Nothing will ever change that. I can’t wait to grow old with you, and… Coraline, what is it? What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. It’s nothing. Never mind. Just…take me home, please.”
“Are you sure? If you still wanna talk-”
“No, no. It’s okay. It can wait.”
“Alright. If you’re sure.”
“I am. Besides, it’s getting late, and there’s still a lot to do before the wedding.”

Oh, wow! What a fascinating idea, Laughter!
Had Mick not mentioned the part about them growing old together, Coraline might have told him the truth right then and there. I have to wonder about how things would have been different had Mick known the truth. Would Coraline have let Mick walk away from her, or would she still have turned him?
Thank you!
This was a great response to the challenge. I love the title!

Laughter
This is totally fabulous!
You present a totally different side of the couple than we saw on the show, but for Mick and Coraline to have stayed together as long as they did after the wedding night, there must have been a strong bond between them apart from the sire/fledgling one.
In the moment you describe here, not only did Mick love Coraline, but she loved him too. Did Mick see only what he wanted to see. Of course, but I think that is true in before most marriages. Had Coraline been honest with Mick beforehand, perhaps he would hve joined her willingly.
Wonderful answer to the challenge!
Thank you!

Oh, what a wonderful conversation. It's so poignant--there's such a sense here that everything was almost, but not quite, perfect for her to introduce him to the concept before the wedding. I'm so sorry she didn't take her courage in both hands and just tell him. This feels like something out of a flashback that we just never happened to see onscreen.

This is great! I can see and hear them. If only she had told him, he probably would have had a hard time deciding if he wanted to leave or stay, but it would have been his choice. You give their love a place to be, and with what we saw of them later I think we need to see that there really was love between them.

What a creative scenario! Certainly worth thinking about. At least Coraline considered telling him. Nice job!

LM---great job! I've never been much of a Cora fan, but you almost made me feel a bit sorry for her here and you portrayed Mick's innocence so beautifully.

Laughter...this is a great 'what if' scenario. What if Coraline had shared her secret with Mick and gave him a choice? What would he have done?
We'll never know, but you've given us something to think about.

Yes, as others have said, this is a great 'what if' scenario. The scene you portray is really vivid -- as is the sadness Coraline feels as she hears Mick's human dreams of growing old together, something she can never do. Perhaps this is what convinced her to hold off telling him.

So, she kinda knew that Mick wanted to grow old with somebody, that this was his dream of life..and she still pulled her plan through?
You've got to give love a choise, that is what it is all about, I think...
Well, had she asked him, and had he accepted willingly, we wouldn't have gotten our angsty, reluctant vampire , so I guess we owe her that much!!

WOW Laughter, the thought of Coraline coming close to telling Mick before they were married. It could have happened and then as you show it, he says the growing old part and she loses her nerve BUT still she could have let him have his wedding night.

I love this story because it really could have changed everything. Coraline almost....but not quite.
