“Josef certainly does things in a big way!” Beth exclaimed when she walked into the Terrace Hilton Ballroom.
“You have no idea!” Mick laughed.
Everyone who was anyone was there in support of the Kostan Industries “Save the Environment” campaign. The ballroom was decked out in shades of greens and gold and was lit by thousands of candles.
“Glad you two could make it” Josef said from behind them. “Beth, lovely as always” he said giving her a small peck on the cheek.
“This is quite the affair Josef. You’ve outdone yourself” Mick said.
“Well I do try my best.” Josef said taking a glass of champagne from a passing waiter and handing it to Beth.

Mick and Josef both looked around the room. They had sensed the arrival of another vampire.
“Mick would you excuse me for a moment” Josef said quickly walking away.
“What’s wrong?” Beth asked looking around.
“Nothing. Knowing Josef, probably a woman he’s hiding from”

Josef was on the terrace when she approached.
“Hello Madeline” Josef said with sudden weariness.
“Josef, darling! How are you?” She said. Josef turned around and looked at the beautiful vixen in front of him.
“Great. And yourself?”
“Better than ever.” She said looking around. “You always knew how to throw the best parties. Let’s say you and I take a stroll like we used to?”
“Sorry, I can’t. My party, I have to stay until the end”
“I do not believe you. The Josef Kostan I know does what he wants when he wants!” She said.
“I’ve changed Madeline. It happens”
“Not to you….unless……..you’re in love” She said slowly following Josef’s gaze which was rested on Beth sitting at a table with Mick. “You’re in love with that pathetic human!” She said in surprise. Josef said nothing.
“I don’t believe it! The mighty Josef Kostan brought to his knees by that!” she said pointing in disgust. Josef still said nothing. Madeline stood in front of him blocking Beth from his sight. “How about you and I invite the little human to my house and have ourselves a little late night snack?” she teased.

Josef grabbed Madeline’s arm and secured it in a vice like grip.
“Here my words.” He hissed in her ear. “You touch her and you will find yourself without a head! Do I make myself clear?” He said pushing her away from him. “Show yourself out!” he said and walked back into the ballroom.

Madeline watched him approach the table where the blonde human sat.
A human with not 1 but 2 vampires vying for her attentions! Oh she would make Josef and the human pay if it was last thing she ever did!

Mick received a call from Guillermo at morgue. There had been a body found and it could be Mick’s missing person’s case. He looked apologetically at Beth.
“Babe I’m sorry…” he began to say.
“It’s okay Mick. I understand” Beth said with a smile.
“Josef would you mind..?”
“No. Not at all. I’ll make sure she gets home in one piece” Josef said.
“Thanks man.” Mick said. He turned to give Beth a quick kiss and rushed out the ballroom.
“Well this night ended rather quickly” Beth said sadly.
“But there’s fun still to be had!” Josef said standing up and offering his hand. “Would you care to dance” he said in an exaggerated flourish.
Beth giggled.
“Alright Mr. Kostan I accept!” She said and took his hand.

Josef and Beth danced the most of the night until Beth finally begged off.
“I didn’t know you could dance Josef?” She said in surprise.
“Did you think my talents were limited to simply writing checks?” He joked.
“Well, no, but dancing? “ Beth said laughing.
“You will find that I have many talents Beth” Josef said in all seriousness.

Beth didn’t know what it was about Josef. He brought out the playful side of her personality. Sometimes she would find herself remembering something he said months ago and cracking up all over again. She couldn’t remember ever just being silly with Mick. Their relationship was always so fraught with Coraline and the kidnapping. Mick always ready to take a bullet for her.

“Come on. I’ll drive you home” She heard Josef saying
