Sometime before they meet again at the fountain, Mick ponders the reasons why he's kept watch over Beth all these years.
Guardian Angel
I started watching over her out of guilt. But over the years, I’ve come to care deeply for her. I can’t explain why her safety and happiness are so crucial to my peace of mind. I only know that the simple trust of that child kept me going when everything else in my soul was destroyed. She saw the monster with blood on his hands and face – and teeth – and she hugged me tight anyway. The warmth of that trust, of her belief in me, was my light in the darkness. She calls me her guardian angel… but she’s mine.

My heart just leapt up into my throat.
OMG, Alle - this is perfect. Every. Single. Word. You've redefined the meaning of guardian angel -- and it's brilliant.

Wonderful and pitch perfect. That last line says it all. This could easily have been a Mick voice over.
Thanks for sharing, Alle!

Ah, Alle
This is fabulous, but of course your already know that.
I can just hear this being read in Alex O.'s voice.
In just a few words, you have summed up one of the key pillars on which Moonlight was constructed!
Truly amazing!
Thank you!
Jenna

Re: Guardian Angel (Drabble, Mick, G, Champagne Challenge #1
Thank you so much, everyone!
This started out as a line from another drabble I'd written, that just didn't seem to be working. Maybe I was trying to fit too many different things into just 100 words, but for whatever reason it just didn't feel right. So I put it away for more than a week.
Yesterday I pulled it up again, and that one line grabbed at me and told me that it wanted to be the subject of its own drabble. And once I figured that out, it was as if Mick was saying the words in my ear. It just wrote itself. This sort of thing feels so utterly magical when it happens, and it's rare for me these days... so I'm thrilled that it felt as "real" to you as it did to me. I hadn't really thought of the Guardian Angel concept on its head before, but I think Mick really does think of Beth that way.

She's clearly the guardian angel of his better nature, of his humanity.allegrita wrote: I hadn't really thought of the Guardian Angel concept on its head before, but I think Mick really does think of Beth that way.
I think that's why his having watched over her since childhood isn't as creepy as it might have been.

Thanks MLC! And Lucky, I feel the same way. It's never felt creepy to me at all, even though "on paper" it certainly could have been considered to be.

Well, what was it Mick said in Click? "It's weird when you say it like that"
I remember people being sort of creeped out, but I think they hadn't looked past the surface of the dynamic between the two.
