“Josef, how do you recruit your freshies?”

“I put posters all around town that say Uncle Josef wants you.”

“I am serious.”

“Why do you want to know Beth?”

“Mick and I have been talking about my eating habits after next Christmas. He says it’s not healthy to drink dead blood in the beginning.“

“I was concerned he was going to keep you on the bottle from the beginning.

“I don’t think I’ll be feeding directly from the source. I’ll be paying for donations.”

“I hope you have a lot of money. It costs twice as much for a needle pint.”

“Why?’

“Think real hard Beth. Do you see people at the Red Cross that look like my Tangie during a feeding?

“Oh, I guess not. A number of your freshies dress like call girls.

“I like my food to be attractive to my eye. Is that a crime?”

“No, but they are also lawyers, doctors, accountants.”

“I also have artists, writers and scientists.

“That’s what I mean. Your freshies may look shallow on the surface but they all have depth. How do you find so many beautiful, intelligent women willing to sell their blood?

“I let the agencies handle the screening process and then when someone appeals to me I make an offer.

“Are there a lot of male freshies?”

“No. They make up ten percent of the population.”

“Do they taste different?”

“Yes, Beth. Boys and girls are different.

“I can’t wait until I can use my fangs.

Oooh, Beth's got a lot of very good questions. And frankly, she's smart to go to Josef. He may give her a snarky answer, but at least he won't flinch from telling her what she needs to know.

Hmmm.... I wonder how Mick would feel about watching Beth drink from a guy...?

I'm sure Mick would be so embarrassed to see Beth drink from a guy, especially if it made the guy moan. He's a fifties man, after all. He also would be insanely jealous.
Beth really asked the right questions to the right person. This is a great story.

Love the relationship you have between Beth and Josef here, the soon-to-be fledgling looking for guidance. And yes, having her feed fresh from a man would likely not sit well with her sire.

francis - I agree Mick would be mortified

jen - Mick would want Beth to know everything beforehand so she could be sure of what she was giving up

PNW- I couldn't resist once I decided on the word recruit

Fleur - Beth is excited and Josef is snarky.

Luxe - I think it took a lot of convincing to persuade Mick, he's the type you would have to set a deadline

DSR - Josef and Beth do have an interesting back and forth relationship

Moonlighter - I would pick Josef to answer all feeding questons.

Sharon - It would be a struggle for Mick but Beth is trying to look at it as choosing between Kung Pao Chicken or Moo shoo Pork. It's just a meal choice.

That's Beth she always needs to know all the information. In this case Josef makes a much better source that Mick.
