Holiday Shopping Stress PG-13

It was the week before Christmas and Beth was shaking her head in front of her laptop.

“What’s wrong?” Mick asked.

“I’m stressed. We are never going to get all our shopping done.”

“Who do we have to buy for besides your mother and maybe me?

Beth rolled her eyes. “Maybe you? If that was all. I have four girlfriends. Secret Solstice at work.

“Secret Solstice?

“Well, it’s a combination of Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa. Do you know how hard it is to find anything good for $25. I’m tempted to just get a Visa card but that seems so thoughtless. So, I have to get AMC movie cards, Itunes cards, Applebee cards and the drugstore was out so…..it’s a mess.

Mick shrugged. “Couldn’t you just bake or something?

Beth glared at him. “Bake??? Who has time to bake? Besides my list doesn’t end there. I have to buy for Josef, Logan, Guillermo, Josef’s secretary, Josef’s head freshie. Did you tip the doorman?

“Yes I tipped the doorman.”

“How much? Beth asked.

Mick hesitated. He hadn’t increased the tip since 1999, he probably should give another card. But he said.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa. When did vampires and Josef’s staff show up on your list?”

Beth’s jaw dropped. Josef and Logan are friends of mine. Guillermo always helps me get you “special” presents and you have to buy something for Josef’s top employees. Do you realize how often we interrupt his work and his household?

“They are well compensated for that.” Mick said.

Beth folded her arms. “By him…..yes. Mick, have you ever noticed that when we stop by Kostan Industries if I text ahead we don’t wait.

Mick had noticed that but he thought it was just Josef being a gentleman.

“That happens because I send a card for Laura’s birthday, turning day, I know her favorite drink is Gin and B neg. I know that Tangie’s birthday is February 16th, I take her out for lunch on her Freshie Anniversary. That’s why when we show up uninvited she gets him no questions asked. When you go you have to make your way through ten freshies.

“So Josef’s staff has to be bribed?”

Beth was indignant. “Not bribed. It’s just…..they have to deal with a lot of drama when his routine gets disturbed. When someone is considerate of them, it makes them more willing to pull the tiger’s tail.

“Beth, you’re crazy. They just like to be difficult.”

“Mick, you’re wrong. I was at KI one day and someone got fired for going to lunch at 12:15 instead of 12:30. They didn’t respond to his 12:24 email until 1:31. The entire building heard about it.

“What were you doing there?

“Bringing Laura a bottle for her turning day. When we “wake him up” on Sunday mornings do you know how long those freshies deal with his foul mood?

“Beth….

“Until next Sunday if they’re lucky. Mick do you tip the staff in your office building?

“Ummm. I give the Super and it trickles down.

Beth shook her head. “I’m making a list for you.”

“Beth aren’t you over-commercializing the holidays?

Beth frowned. “I won’t disagree with you but I can’t bake cookies for vampires. It’s important to let people know you appreciate them and unfortunately the easiest way to do it is with the holidays.

Mick realized he had a lot of work ahead of him.

Beth is definitely the organizer! She knows how to keep their life running smoothly!

Beth is really organized, but she also knows what makes life a Little easier and what makes People feel appreciated.
