Coraline's Musings PG-13 Cham Chall 157 Moonlight Monologue

Post by cassysj »

I do not own any recognizable characters no copyright infringement is intended.

(Coraline has a stake in the heart and has a lot to think about.)

As the stake entered Coraline shock was the first thing that registered in her brain, followed by agony. How could I have missed that? I picked Beth all those years ago for a reason. I knew this girl was a survivor and…that she had that killer instinct. Even at four I could see it. The little girl that saw the “monster’ burn was happy about it. My“death” made her feel safe. The look I saw in Beth’s eyes was my own reflection.

Mick is hysterical. Is the desperation I hear love or the need to know how I became human?

Beth said logically, coldly. Stakes don't kill vampires. They just paralyze them.

What did I tell myself the first time I drew blood? Humans are less than…..it’s no different from eating a cow or a pig. That’s what Beth is thinking right now. That’s how she’s rationalizing conventional morality.

Mick is prattling on about the cure. He wants to know but part of him must still love me. If not what was any of this for? I can’t…..won’t let Beth win. My blood is on her hands now. She is no longer innocent. She has willfully taken a life that was no threat to her or anyone else. It is her first murder, even if I don’t die. The next one will be easier Beth. Someday soon there will be a person standing between you and what you want and you’ll make sure they die. I truly am your mother whether you realize it or not.

Oh, my god! :gasp: I honestly never thought about it this way, but this rings so true! :clapping: Of course Coraline would think of herself, in a twisted way, as mother to that little girl grown up. And of course she would take pride in that daughter as she displayed the fierce qualities that would make her a successful vampire one day. The fact that she was the recipient of that fierceness would be secondary. Coraline has suffered plenty of pain. Pain is short-lived.

How eerie that final prediction is. That's exactly what will happen when Beth sees Mick threatened in Click.

Wonderfully creepy and really original! :notworthy:

Really interesting take on how Coraline viewed Beth;
The look I saw in Beth’s eyes was my own reflection.
Now that is prophetic in more ways than one - does she see Beth as a vampire or someone who craves Mick's love or perhaps both?
Someday soon there will be a person standing between you and what you want and you’ll make sure they die.
Coraline might not have known that Beth already killed Lee Jay, but regardless, a very insightful view of what lies in Beth's future, human or vampire.

Wonderful answer to the challenge, Carol

Alle - When I thought about the challenge Coraline leaped right into my head. She's very proud of her little girl.

DSR - Thanks. Coraline can read most people Mick being the exception. You brought up an interesting idea. I thought of Coraline seeing vampire Beth but there is also the woman that wants Mick's love

Wow! :thud:

Now that is a really fascinating stake on this scene, if you can forgive me the bad pun. I love the way you link it to the scene when Beth sees Coraline burn as a child. I would not have thought of Coraline still seeing Beth as this child now that she has become a rival, but now yes I see it! She did feel a mother's instinct towards her.

Beyond her pride, it almost feels like at that moment, she is hoping that Beth will help her take the ultimate revenge: Mick betrayed her by choosing Beth over her all these years ago, then he goes off and falls for Beth as an adult, adding insult to injury, but if in the end Beth turned out to be like her, the joke would be on Mick...

Really amazing! Thank you! :rose:

I loved this take on Coraline's thoughts here! :hearts:

Beth does have a cold, hard streak that appears once in a while. Mick might not want to see it, but Coraline certainly would.

Fantastic take on that scene!
