Beth’s Phone Call
“Josef? It’s Beth Turner.”
“Well, well, well. I see I’ll have to give Mick a refresher course on not giving out my private cell phone number.”
“No! Please don’t say anything to him; I searched his phone when he wasn’t looking.”
“Very resourceful. Not unexpected however, since you’re a reporter. Now, Ms. Turner, why are you calling me? And without Mick’s knowledge, I may add.”
“It’s not for Buzzwire; it’s personal. And Mick can’t know about it.”
“What a surprise.”
“I - I need your help.”
“Again.”
“Yes, again.”
“Are you in trouble?”
“No. Well, not really.”
“Then I take it Mick is in trouble?”
“Yes. I’m worried about him. I think he’s in danger of being exposed.”
“And you think this why?”
“There are some photos. And… and I’m being blackmailed.”
“I see.”
“Can I come over?”
“No, that’s not a good idea. Too many people saw you come here before and know you are a friend of Mick’s. I think it would be better if I came to you. I’ll meet you at your apartment in thirty minutes. Is there any chance Mick will come by?”
“No. He’s picking me up for dinner but that’s not for almost two hours. Let me give you my address…”
“I know where you live.”
“You do?”
“I make it my business to know things like that.”
“Josef, you won’t tell anyone, will you?”
“No one will hear about our visit from me. I’ll see you in thirty.”
“I’ll be here.”
