It's funny how a simple photograph can transport all your senses back to a specific moment in time.
The sounds of birds on a summer afternoon - and of her sighs.
The smell of a flower garden - and of her perfume.
The softness of her dress - and her skin.
Seeing her pretty smile - and the look of longing in her eyes.
The taste of lemonade - and her lips.
Oh, my darling Lilah.

Oh, MLC!! This is SO lovely!
Such simple, delicate phrasing... and it evokes so much longing and emotion.
Just wonderful!

Absolutely lovely, MLC
Just the kind of thoughts Mick would have for the love he had to give up.

This is almost a poem. What beautiful images. Mick really loved her.

Thank you everyone! So glad you liked this!
I found it interesting that Mick said he had to give up most of the things from his human life, but chose to keep the photograph of Lilah. And the way he held it, and looked at it... this had to be what he was thinking.

I love it... and you know, rereading it, it struck me that this could almost be Ray's thoughts, away in Europe during the war, looking at her photograph and thinking longingly of her. She had two wonderful men who loved her so much. Lucky lady.

The moment when Mick is looking at Lilah's picture is one of my favorite scenes, because you can tell that so much is going through his mind just then.
This is such a beautiful, vivid way to describe those thoughts, and the way he was transported back into that time. Love it!
