1985

Mick’s chest felt like it was pounding even though that was impossible. Did that really just happen? Did he kill Coraline? Handing that beautiful little girl back to her mother gave him a feeling of peace and joy that he hadn’t known for over thirty years. It quickly dissipated as soon as he drove away from the Turner house. Coraline was dead. What was he going to do? What happened when a vampire killed their sire? He knew Coraline’s sire lived in France and she was absolutely terrified of him. He needed to talk to someone and the only safe person was going to a Fright Night Party in Beverly Hills.

Josef had gotten a car phone. Mick parked his car, fished a dime out of his pocket and dialed the number. He was told to only use it for emergencies this certainly qualified. Josef picked up on the second ring.

“I’m in trouble.” Mick said.

“Where are you?”

“I’m on Wilshire Blvd. I need….

“Not another word. Drive to Wilshire and Rodeo. I’ll meet you there.

Josef was driving his convertible. Mick walked over and Josef asked. “Are you being followed?”

“No.”

“Are you sure?

Mick sighed. “Yes. Coraline is dead.”

Josef’s eyes widened. “Then whoever killed her is after you. Get in, I’ll arrange for immediate relocation.

Mick gasped, leaving LA was too much. He had broken ties with his family, his wife, but not his city. Never his city. He got in the car. “I killed her.”

A look of surprise went across Josef’s face. “Killing a sire is a big deal. Did you call for a cleanup?

“No need, I set her on fire.”

Josef nodded. “Any witnesses?”

“No. Mick lied She had kidnapped a little girl….for me, to turn into a monster.

Josef asked calmly. “Did the child see anything?

Mick was suddenly terrified. He knew deep in his gut the child wouldn’t survive if he told the truth.

“No, Coraline had drugged her. After the fight I grabbed the girl but she was out cold.” “I brought her back to her mother, they’re won’t be any further investigation.

“Are you sure?”

“Yes. She just wanted her baby back. Am I in trouble?

Josef would have laughed if it wasn’t so serious. Killing a Duvall? Half of Europe would want him dead and the other half would rejoice.

“Have you talked to anyone but me?”

“No. I didn’t know what to do.”

“Okay, are you going to stay here?”

“Josef, I can’t leave…..

Josef frowned. “You’ll do what I say or you won’t get my help. Are you determined to stay?

“Yes.”

“Then don’t mention Coraline to anyone unless they ask. If they ask say she left you for a Baron.”

“A Baron???

Josef practically growled. “Yes. There’s a Baron she’s been on and off with since the early 19th Century. It will sound plausible if the story ever reaches the wrong ears.

“Josef…..

“Mick, I’m leaving on Saturday. Josef Konstantine will be dead.

Mick froze this was too much he was losing everything. Josef had said he was leaving this year but not when.

If you’re going to stay you have to be careful. Josef continued. "As far as the vampire world is concerned she moved up from you. That’s how you have to play it. “Your sire has broken ties with you.”

“Josef, I don’t…..

“Mick, obey me or I’m driving away and leaving you by the side of the road.”

Mick swallowed. “Okay, Coraline left me for a Baron. She said I was beneath her and she’s broken ties with me.”

Josef nodded. “Good, now forget about it. What’s done is done.

“Josef, my wife is….

“Your wife has left you for another man. “You should think about Chicago. It would be a good change of pace.”

“No, my life is here.”

Josef frowned. “Fine, you’re an idiot, just don’t forget she broke ties with you not the other way around.

“What difference does it make?

“All the difference in the world Kid. Josef said seriously.

I can picture this conversation. Josef snapping out orders and Mick in despair. Josef gave Mick excellent advice, but I hate for poor Mick to be left without any friend at all in town. :Mickangel: Then again, it makes sense that with Josef no longer in close proximity, Mick would be more free to take up those strange habits, like buying dead blood. :chin: This scenario really does make a lot of sense, and I think it's a great response to the Challenge! :clapping:

 This scene is so picturable in my head Cassy! I can hear Josef half muttering under his breath as he drives away from it too. Perhaps thinking he might not see his friend again after doing something so dangerous.
Almost makes me want to know more about what happens next! :winky:
Thank you for sharing your story. :flowers:

This is terrific, cassy. Your Josef is very in character and the conversation between them is believable enough to have been something we'd see on the series. This kept me intrigued right to the end.
