Short and lovely and sweet.

She had heard him say “you can’t” so loudly in her head that it drowned out “because I love you” hidden underneath.

Lovers quarrel, and our stubborn Beth is going to be quick to rebel against any constraints Mick might try to put on her to keep her safe. I like what jen said - that Beth grabbed the exact right coat. Even in her anger, she surrounds herself with Mick's love.

Good thing Mick's scent and warm coat brought her to her senses!

Ahh, MLC -- just coming through for a re-read (I know, I know -- my first pass was on another site, but...) Every time I read this, I can just feel Beth giving in and realizing that all Mick's perceived "restrictions" are only because he loves her so much. If she can deal with it, she will come to realize how much she is cherished. And being enveloped in Mick's scent certainly helps!

Oh, I'd forgotten this wonderful short story! I love the image of Beth swathed in Mick's big coat, but even more I love the emotion in this one.
