Yeah, but this will be different in a much different way Sister. Seems more people would be likely to embrace this type of drama vs. a vampire show. I've always loved the vampire genre and looked forward to the premiere of ML because of that AND the hot guy in the previews. :hearts: When I tried to tell a few friends about ML and that they should watch it, I received the 'you've got two heads' looks. I don't get it because it's wonderful escapism, but I guess the majority wants more they can relate to? :? I guess we're just special. ;)

We are most definitely special, Sister! And no one is praying harder than me that this show gets picked up... well Mrs. O'Loughlin maybe, but aside from his mom... we're all in here praying... and as SS adds, chanting... together. But I worry. That's my job, isn't it; I'm the one that worries???

That's the part that scares me about the pick up, Ma Fleurette, my rock(ette?).... something different... like ML was different... CBS doesn't like different... but hoping they'll go for it one more time with the Alex...

I knew that someone would pick up on my different comment!! And yes, ML was different--and look at the choices Alex has made thus far in his career- a very eclectic mix of roles. I know that we would be happy to see him in anything, but I also believe that we would be slightly disappointed if he were in some 'run-of-the-mill' tv show, like every other show out there.

This is different, but not so far outside the realm of what is out there already. Set in a hospital, it will inherently attract viewers who already enjoy those types of shows--so, I see that as a kind of safety net. The difference is in the subtext of the show--that is the part that is unique.

Oui Oui... but as you see in my above post... I worry. And it's up against Bruckheimer... whose shows are not different, but usually successful and, most importantly, on the frikkin air. Then again, his Shopaholic movie tanked... maybe it shoulda been a Moonlightaholic movie...

I'm worrying right along with ya Hon and will no doubt be a complete wreck as it draws nearer! We want it so badly for him AND for us.

Well, grace, I guess given the choice I would rather have you worrying about if Alex's show will get picked up/whether it will do well once picked up, versus you worrying about him not having a show and hearing nothing from him.

I have felt for the last several months, that things were going to start really going his way (which in turn means our way), and I continue to feel that. My instincts haven't let me down yet, and I don't plan on being wrong now!

It is always a crapshoot when a new pilot is released---it's the risk that has to be taken. With the fanbase he already has established plus all the new people tuning in, I honestly can't see this failing. I mean, even if only 5 million of ML viewers watch this show, couple that with 5 million new viewers---you got yourself a solid rating.

Grace, I agree, it is scarry, but you have to hope that this is one that critics could love. I do believe shows that have that kind of backing, networks are inclined to be more leant with. Look at shows, that did not catch on right away, the ones that were saved the first year where ones that were more critcally acclaimed shows (The Office, Friday Night Lights and 30 Rock). If I am full of :beep: on this, I give up on TV, but I do believe Alex was offered other parts from CBS, and if he picked this show, you got to believe he made the right choice, and I do believe people are ready for a new kind of show at this time.

"Those in the know", of whom I am most definitely not one, seem to think that exteriors will be shot in Pittsburgh but all the main action will be filmed at Paramount.

The thing that stands out to me is the kind of role Alex chose. It's as you said, look at some of the stuff he's done in the past- eclectic and certainly on the edge. As an actor, I would kill for a meaty role like this and would not be thinking about ratings. I'm guessing actors have to be somewhat phlegmatic about the chances of success. It's really a crap shoot.

As for his fans....the angsting has begun, our lot in life. Grace can be leader of the Alex Angst Party. ;) She can do the worrying for us.

I don't hold out a lot of hope for this but I don't feel hopeless. Mick is never coming back, but Alex will always have another shot at the brass ring.

Red, I am sure they are right, but If Alex is doing a series called "Three Rivers", he better be visiting the Burgh on a regular bases. He already has most of PA watching this show!

Les Moonves has said that he wants to capture the ER audience and I have a really good feeling that Three Rivers will be just the type of show to do that. ER definitely had the medical aspect, the drama, those heart-wrenching moments, but it also followed the lives and loves of its medical staff. So I see this show as being a nice combo of medical/procedural and character driven drama. IMO, this is definitely a step above and NCIS or CSI which barely skims the lives of its characters.

Just my 2 cents.

Alex took his time choosing the right role for himself. You know how he identified with Mick pretty intimately? I wouldn't be surprised if this character resonates within similarly.
Regarding the subject matter...I think we're in for something quite different and extremely emotional. Boundless euphoria with success and crippling sorrow for loss.
Many folks are resistant to checking off the transplant box on their drivers license...my husband is, whereas I am a firm believer in it. So this show will be an important learning experience for many of us.
Amyvil...thanks for your comments about transplant medicine.

I know nothing about the TV business and my thoughts are definitely colored by strong emotions when it comes to Alex.
But he has always made great choices and said on several occasions that he dislikes procedurals. I remeber the interview with Ed from Vampires and Slayers when Alex, in a very honest moment, said about the few folks who were "shocked" by the turning scene in FTP, that they "could go watch f&*% CSI, turn your brains off".
We also know that Alex liked the dramatic moments in FTP and WLB. Since he had a choice and picked this pilot tells me that it will be a great show for him. I have confidence in the man's taste.
