What could be really interesting is since this episode is from the unsub's POV, we'll get a look into the serial killer's mind. That could be frightening and I can only imagine what Alex could do with it.
Any bets on a split personality? (no, not schizophrenia).
Perhaps, except I think CM just did an episode recently that featured a killer with split personality (or actually it might be the episode coming up on April 8th), so i can't imagine they would go that route again so soon.

My bet is that he starts developing feelings for this young boy and his mother but is also battling his urge to kill them as he had planned. So in order to save their lives, he wants someone to stop him.

I agree. To project here a little, I can't imagine that he would talk about Mick and ML with anything but affection.

Also, how can he possibly be typecast or need to "move as far away as possible" from the Mick character? He wasn't shackled to it, it wasn't popular, the show wasn't popular. To imagine that he needs to divest himself of any trace of Mick is rather absurd, IMO. Besides, Mick, other than the fact that he was a vampire was a fully rounded character, a wonderful man, with great depth, thanks to Alex.

Wow, I don't think Alex has to move on from anything other than people's assumptions that playing Mick/a vampire could drag him down.
His body of work has been quite varied. I imagine he chose the role because as an actor it challenged him. If he chose to do it partially to move as far away from Mick as possible then it shows me that he's got a problem, and I choose not to believe that.

You know....sometimes I think we try to get into actor's heads and figure out what they think and why they act certain ways. In reality, we are probably so far from what they actually think, it's ridiculous. LOL

Remembering when people were speculating that Alex wanted to get away from Moonlight and then he pops up on the Breakout Beyond Moonlight site as a guest. Yeah, he wants FAR away from that role.

He's only been in a handful of movies/TV shows. Even Jason has done more professional work than Alex and he's younger! He's just starting out and is building up his resume. Mick is a character in his, hopefully, super, super long career ahead of him. :D I don't believe he's embarrassed by Moonlight/Mick or takes jobs that are the complete opposite. He probably picks characters based on how they affect him and what he can bring to them...like most amazing actors do.

But, there I go speculatin'. Hehe.

WG, you just said what I :snicker: tried to say and failed miserably! I didn't mean to imply that he was trying to ditch Mick or Moonlight, only that as a actor he chose a very different role when he decided to do the Criminal Minds episode. I also was trying to say that he, as an actor, was trying to chose varied and different roles. As pointed out by lafluffy, his past credits have definitely been varied and very different. But like you said, WG, we do tend to psychohanalyze these actors way too much! :snicker: Right now, I'm just sitting back and impatiently waiting for April 29th. I guess after that, I'll be impatiently waiting for May and CBS's upfronts. And believe me, I'm not a very patient person! :rofl2:

It will showcase his diversity as an actor and hopefully (in his mind perhaps) distance himself a bit from Moonlight and Mick. To be a successful actor, which is what he's got to want to be, he cannot be forever linked to one role. Or at least I don't think thats what he would want. Some actors are forever known for a particular role they played. And thats all well and good, but it has to make it extremely difficult for them to garner interest or an audience for anything other than that role that made them famous. So, first up a serial killer...then he's tackling the role of transplant doctor. And I would hazzard a guess another totally different look. Go Alex! I think your fans will be happy with your career choices and if not, well then don't you worry about it. He's got to do his own thing, carve out his own future. We're all just along for the thrill ride! ;)

That was really nicely put, Susan. I agree with you. And so many people know him ONLY as MIck... he does need to separate from that at least a little bit...
I agree and my head understands the logic..but, I'll tell you, if "Vincent" ends up dying in CM..I'll be crying for Mick too... :hankie:
Oh honey.. I will be wailing too... mwj, SS, and I agreed when this was first announced that we were SOOO pulling for the killer to win this time around! Cause we just don't want to see anything bad happen to our Alex... btw, have you seen Feed???

Why would Alex feel anything but great pride for the work he did in ML?
He loved the show and Mick and gave everything he had for it. He said many times in his post ML interviews how disappointed he was by the cancellation.

And yes, grace! I am with you; I was pulling for Michael in Feed, maybe because the policeman was so creepy.

I know I'm late in the thread and but I wanted to thank Grace for "I am dulighted that Alecks O'Laughlin is getting to play on Cruminal Mounds on CVS... I bet Nona Tussler and Los Moonley are so prowd." OMG. Funny. And I bet that Alex picks up the 'Randy Andy' tag unless they cast him as a priest in a doctor suit. Yablonski or whatever is just to much to deal with. :rofl2:

Oh I am sure he does feel pride, plus this is the role that has now given him his shot... but he seems to like veering off into different characters... it is what he has done so far, and it is something he noted in one of those damn audio-but-no-picture interviews he did this past year...

He REALLY oughta do interviews with visuals...

I agree with you all that Alex's roles have always been varied, which he must love. But I can see that perhaps he's ready to get past Mick. This next role is the first one he's ever done that had a fanbase anticipating his work. As much as he loved Mick I bet he doesn't want anyone to see Mick in Vincent, or even Andy Yablonski. I know most of the ML fans have been very appreciative of his various characters so far, and there's no doubt you can't please everyone, but it must irk him when he sees comments like "there'll never be another Mick St John" or "I hope he has Mick hair" - whatever.

Perhaps this complete 360 from hero to anti-hero is to show the ML fans that aren't necessarily his fans, that he has a lot more to offer than MSJ. Apart from this episode of CM being something any actor worth his salt relishes, it's also an opportunity to shake off the romantic hero role - before he steps right back into again in TR! :snicker:

I hate to even compare the two but.......Look what Greys has done for Patrick Dempsey he has been in few Romantic comedy Movies, some big parts and some not so big parts ("Sweet Home Alabama" comes to mind) and he hadn't been heard of for years since his teen movie days. Also Bruce Willis after Moonlighting,He is a huge Action Adventure star,I know George Clooney has been mentioned to death,But I really think that if this Pilot gets picked up for him he will take off into films. And IMO from what I have heard that is where his heart lies.
