Hard to relive this period from last year. We were so sure (and Alex, too) that ML would be renewed. But I do think that something went terribly awry in the PTB and their "who pays for what" talks and it caught the whole industry by surprise.

Hopefully lightning doesn't strike our boy twice. Even if we are trying to be cautious, I know we (and Alex) will be in pain again if it doesn't happen. It is too late for keeping our emotions in check; our minds understand this but our hearts, not so much! :blushing:

Well, we already now he's HOT  ...and property? Yeah, I guess he's property too...of CBS right now, with that contract. It works!

Well... if he IS getting buzz (even if it is only just us) for CM and BUP and 3R... well that's part of how the wheels turn in that business isn't it?

So it helps him, no matter what... tho surely does not guarantee anything... Time mag just had a big article on the popularity of The Mentalist... how it is sooo old fashioned and that we probably figure out the killer a few minutes before Simon does... and that alot of it is just his appeal to women, who are apparently the majority of viewers for that show...

So we are probably actually considered a good thing... go figure!

Yup, thats exactly why CBS put Alex in a guest starring role on Criminal Minds. You can bet your next gray hair that CBS will be watching the numbers after the show airs. I would imagine they are really going to hype the show next week and show lots of promos, make sure the word is out to the Alex fans out there that are not so obsessive as we and troll fansites for anything and everything Alex-related. :snicker: I say if the numbers are big for Alex's Criminal Minds episode, and I mean the demographics as well, then 3Rivers is a shoo-in. If not, then lets hope that the "buzz" around 3Rivers in the industry is good, just like the Hollywood Reporter stated.

Thanks, mwj, for the Matt Roush tidbit! I feel "thismuch" more confident that 3Rivers is going to make it! :cheering:

I read the article too, Grace!
I can't imagine why the show is the new hit of the season; I did try twice to watch it (two half-episodes is my record) and, yes Simon Baker is cute, but where is the beef?
The author of the article basically tells us that the show is average and the concept old-fashioned (try tired instead), and that the CBS audience is old but still it was succesful :confused2:

I am very optimistic about TR but still holding my breath until May 20, or maybe a few days earlier.
The thought of the numbers game about the CM episode gave me a bad feeling. Remembring how we all waited for the ratings for the last episodes...
And I anticipate some gray hairs between now and May

Grace and Darlingcat have to agree, watch Mentalist every Tuesday, I like Simon Baker a lot, but I am still waiting for that OMG episode that makes me a true fan. For TR getting the nod in May, okay, a lot of press for a major role CM+ filming pilot for TR (good press so far)+plus the role in BUP (CBS's first movie from their production company (?))= really hopefull or a really bad joke on fans. Yes more grey hair till May, really starting to look like a skunk!

I don't know if I can take another long period where we don't know about when Alex will be on TV. It will be bad enough to wait all summer for TR to begin---but to be left again in limbo with nothing to look forward to--- :dunce: :dizzy: :blushing:

Some info/rumor from Nikki Finke.

Primetime Pilot Panic: The Hot List
For the 3rd year in a row, here's very early info to update you on 2009-2010 primetime pilots. I hear the following pilots have heat heading into these final weeks before the network upfronts. In most cases, this good buzz is based on scripts considered above average and even exceptional, word from the set or editing room by those who've seen some of the pilots, and/or the successful showrunners, producers, directors involved. The lucky ones include Bill Lawrence, Marc Guggenheim, Claudia Lonow, Josh Schwartz, Ian Biederman, Peter Berg, David E Kelley, and Mitch Hurwitch (3 times over). I'll be updating...

UNTITLED NCIS SPIN-OFF (Paramount): "Will go."
THREE RIVERS (Paramount/Deuce Three): "It's early but I hear they like what they're seeing." Stars Alex O'Loughlin who might bring his rabid Moonlight fanbase.
FISH TANK (Sony TV)
WAITING TO DIE (Sony TV/Tantamount)
ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE (Paramount/BermanBraun): "Jenna Elfman..." "Hot."
HAPPINESS ISN'T EVERYTHING (Sony TV/Paramount/Tantamount): "Jason Biggs... Network is happy with the way it came in." Five scripts already.
BACK (Paramount/Storyline) "Still shooting..."
THE GOOD WIFE (Paramount/Scott Free): Cast contingent."

nothing we didn't know but she's a really reliable source, she might have more infos in a few days.

You know, I hate that "rabid fanbase" crap, but in this particular instance I'll make an exception. :evillaugh: Especially if the "rabid Moonlight fanbase" can help get a season pickup for "Three Rivers"! :cheer:

Thanks, Jade!

He "might" bring his ML fans? You bet he will :hearts:
It sounds very promising.

Thank you, Jade. For once having such a fanbase seems to work in Alex' favor, whereas before I had the notion it didn't help anything that the fans wanted Moonlight to stay. Now suddenly it's worth a mention that there is, in fact, a fanbase. How come that wasn't enough to keep Moonlight going? Naw, I'm not bitter...
Can't wait to hear about Three Rivers being picked up. I'm very optimistic. There aren't so many medicine/doctor/hospital stories going now (compared to detective/police/CSI stories), Dr. House and Greys Anatomy are highly popular, so it seems there is a big chance.

Wow, this is starting to sound VERY good. I wouldn't have believed it, after everything surrounding Alex being SOOO quiet for so long, but he really is getting some buzz. I know the fanbase is part of the noise, but really we are only vocal when there's something to crow about. We have to hand it to CBS (and I know there are still some who will disagree with me here), but they are giving us a fair bit to get excited about. An episode of CM during sweeps with a great character that shows the world what a great character actor he is, a new pilot (that was Alex's choice) and a lead role in a movie, which will be shot and promoted just as TR is preparing to start in the fall.(God willing).

I trust that Alex will show his mettle in TR, and just like Simon Mirren said he created a lot of buzz on the set of CM, I bet he can get that kind of a reaction on TR too, although the character of Dr Andy can't possibly be as flashy or noteworthy as Vincent. I think the guest spot on CM was very cleverly designed to help create that something special to get him noticed and therefore help TR get a pick up. The timing is just too perfect for it not to have some significance. And I think the choice of a rom com role in BUP will feed into the audience for TR, so they will kind of cross promote one another. I should imagine that fans of TBUP will also enjoy TR. So hopefully, if TR is successful enough to last until TBUP airs early next year, it may get an audience boost for BUP fans who may have missed the start of the TR series. And new fans of Alex through TR will go to see the movie. And tying it all together is the rabid fanbase. We may hate the term, but it's effective in setting us apart from just regular fans. :groupwave:

Geesh, 26 days until we hear about TR and I'm already heavy into the Tums. Of course, we have delish Alex in his creepy turn as Vincent to look forward to next week but then it's going to be serious nail biting time. Feels like deja vu all over again.

I'm really, really getting my hopes up about TR getting picked up, what with Nikki Finke (who was the first one last year to break the bad news about Moonlight being cancelled or at least the first one I read) and The Hollywood Reporter both reporting good things about its chances.

I think we should all join hands and pray real, real hard (or at least dance a little! LOL) :groupwave:
