Anyone Else Feel Really Sad Moonlight never had this?

Post by Moonlightsonata »

All this publicity about one Criminal MInds Episode? Also a possible upcoming series and a movie. But somewhere deep inside I have to admit I am feeling somewhat bitter - not sure if that is the word I want but it seems close - that Moonlight never had this kind of publicity. Moonlight was my love. It was what made me join MLL, and then some subsequent boards such as this one. It is what made me fly from Philadelphia to Paley - an event I am so thankful for. It made me start reading fanfic and become part of a community. Yes Alex made Moonlight what it was - he worked so hard, harder than anyone - but it really was the whole show for me not just Alex. And I feel that if Moonlight had gotten just a fraction of what has been going on the past couple of weeks, it might still be around. I know in my brain that there is no point in crying over spilled milk, but in my heart I am just not there.

Yes I wish the best for Alex. I am a true fan and I will follow him. But I have to admit I was a fan of Moonlight well before I became a fan of Alex. I wish the best for Jason, Sophia, Brian and Jordan also. And without Alex there would have been no Moonlight. But when I see all the articles in the newspapers, and all the other stuff, I just can't help but think what if? I hope I am not the only one who feels like this, since I realize it isn't good. Moonlight isn't coming back. But today I am heartbroken again.

Can someone please help me. I really need a hug.

:ghug:  :comfort:

I feel a bit sad myself.
What makes it bearable is first Alex' enthusiasm and attitude of going further, cherishing what he had but not dwelling on it. He's a good example.
Then I am so glad that the actors have work. And I'm very very thrilled to get to know Andy from Three Rivers and Vincent from CM. They will add to the admiration I have for Alex.
And then I like the admission, finally, by Alex himself and others in the industry that Moonlight deserved more, that it was killed prematurely and would have gotten its footing. I find that comforting that it wasn't just deluded fans who thought so.
Saying "I told you so" to the industry is such a guilty pleasure.

Thanks for the hugs and thank you Francis. You are right there is some satisfaction in that. And Alex is real; Mick isn't, but sometimes pretend is so much better than real.

I'm right there with you MS. The 'if onlys' will always be there. And thaink goodness for the DVD - but again - :beep: the idiots who didn't put any extras in - and the whole cast & writers were willing to do them!

But we knwo how much Alex loved Moonlight - and us. And we'll follow him to all his new projects.

I am definitly a fan of Alex, but I got to know him because of Moonlight. And I still love Moonlight, and it will always be special to me. In Germany we say
"one laughin eye and one crying eye" (okay, that don't make sense when translated) but this is how I feel. I wish all the Moonlight cast all the best, but I still miss Moonlight! So I am right there with you MS!

Totally agree. I've been reading the DELUGE of interviews with Alex today which is totally wonderful for Alex and his career. I get that. (Actually, I'm starting to have trouble keeping the threads straight on which of the four sites I log into and where I've commented so I can follow up)

As I've read, I've started several replies along the line of the topic of this thread but never finished any of them. Everyone seems so happy in all their comments but I just kept wanting to say "Why couldn't this faith in Alex have been shown while Moonlight was still around? Why isn't Moonlight still on the air?" So sad. This thread is making me a bit teary-eyed.

I know, MS... but to ME... revenge is pimping the actor now. If we can help him get a career... THAT'S my I-told-you-so...

I was saying this exactly thing to my flatmate, who is one of the three saints that i live with because for a year they have dealt with all this and not killed ot committed me. Sally, today alone, with all the Alex stuff deserves express appointment. It is a bit heartrending, because i agree. Our great revenge will be his sucess and Jason and Sophia's. I admit myself a bit angry but you know kudos for the big guy. As i always say, i'm just so damn proud of him.

But i'm with you sweetie all the way so :ghug: :ghug:    :hearts: :grouphug: :grouphug:

No, you're not alone... :ghug: :ghug: :ghug: :ghug:

Look at where we all are. This site is not Alex O'Loughlinaholics, it's Moonlightaholics. We know what our first love is. Most of us came to know Alex and the other actors THROUGH our love of Moonlight. (Well, except for Jade, and as soon as she sees the show, she'll be one of us!) :rose: And as much as we admire and follow those actors, writers, and crewmembers, it's Moonlight that keeps us a community.

Moonlight deserved better than it got from most of TPTB. I'll never get over my disappointment at the way it was treated. But we'll keep it alive here, and in our hearts. That's all we can do. So in the midst of being sad about it, I'm happy too, because I have all of you to share my love of this magical world, this world that makes so much sense to me in my heart and my imagination.

So... :redwine2: here's to Moonlight--to beautiful Los Angeles, where every day is gorgeous and there's never any smog to mar the sunrise or the full moon. Here's to the FoS, Josef's house, and all of the other gorgeous architecture, furniture, and other style-elements that make this world so beautiful and so distinctive. Here's to the Henleys, the coats, the jackets, the tight jeans, the Armani suits, and all of the other clothes and accessories that made our stars look so gorgeous. Here's to the Mercedes and the Ferrari-- the perfect rides for our vampires. Here's to noir--slanting lines of light and shade, half-lit profiles, lamplight and streetlight and moonlight. And to the music--how could I forget the music?

Here's to our brooding hero, Mick--may he someday take comfort in what he has instead of always yearning for what he's lost. Here's to Josef, the consummate alpha vampire, who would thrive in this depressed economic climate, just as he thrives everywhere. Here's to the freshies who sustain and love him. Here's to Beth, the beautiful, courageous, damaged soul who simply Will. Not. Quit. Bless you, Beth--and may you soon get back to journalism, your true love. Here's to Coraline, the seductress and survivor. I know that Mick, Josef, and even Beth will come soon to rescue you very soon. And I know that you'll land on your dainty feet, because you always do. Here's to Guillermo, the sexiest M.E. ever. I'd gladly supply you with some of my fresh O-positive. Here's to Logan, and Ryder, to Sam and Steve, to Carl Davis, and to the memories of Josh and Maureen. I love you all.

And here's to you, my Moonlight friends. I love you all too. :grouphug:

Here's a hug for you..

I know exactly how you feel..I am reliving my mourning period again, and I feel the blues coming on..
I feel compelled to read more and then I feel..dayum! look at all this limelight that our precious show never had...
Hearing more about Alex's feelings about the show...it's hard for me also...
I just start feeling that frustration level, and I have to walk away and drink some water...

Alle, you put your finger on something that's been bugging me for days now - and made me misty-eyed. I am THRILLED at Alex's potential successes and so happy reading and hearing all the interviews. Our boy's getting noticed and as an Alex fan, I couldn't be happier. But underlying that is this hint of sadness that keeps catching me unaware.

I had the oddest reaction the first time I watched the CM clip - I burst into tears. My first thought was "He's not my Mick anymore." I think that it's ok to still be sad at what we lost while we celebrate what we gained and are still gaining. As much as I plan to embrace anything Alex attempts, his Mick St. John will always have a special place in my heart.
And then I like the admission, finally, by Alex himself and others in the industry that Moonlight deserved more, that it was killed prematurely and would have gotten its footing. I find that comforting that it wasn't just deluded fans who thought so.
Amen to that, francis.
