And if I may be so bold as to make a suggestion, ladies?
There is so much here on the site to remind all of us of everything we love about Mick and all the other characters. Forget about Three Rivers for a bit - go read a fic, any fic - something you've never read before or an old favourite (check out the recommendations thread if you need some inspiration), check out a pic thread or chip in to one of the character threads.
Take a moment to revel in the Moonlight glow.

I never read fanfic... just cannot get into it... and I hear there are some pretty crazy women writing the stuff...

And AGAIN with the giggling and snorting, Grace. My neighbours think I'm deranged - but after what they've done to me this week, pffffttt.

Re: Three Rivers and maybe I need counseling
You all have expressed exactly how I feel. I don't see TR comparing to ML in any way. Now that I found out TR was picked up ML feels a little bit "further away" to me and it makes me a little sad. That's why I joined here the other day because I see some sites slipping into more Alex than Moonlight.
I love Alex but he is not what holds me in my obsession. Alex is not who I think of as I am driving home after work or when I alone in bed or when my mind is wandering and seeking diversion from the stress of the day. It's Moonlight and it's the character of Mick. Mick's character is archetypal of the great literary romances like Jane Austen, Bronte. Throw in the cool vamp aspect and he is an awesomely sexy wonderful character!
I plan to read a lot of fanfic over here to get my ML fix. It's nice to know others feel the way I do. Thanks for sharing.

Well, Helloeeze, there's certainly a lot to choose from here, fanfic-wise. Pretty much any pairing, and any rating, and it's represented.

Re: Three Rivers and maybe I need counseling
I am in so many fandoms and love to keep up with many TV shows/actors/singers, but NOTHING has ever affected me like Moonlight and the characters, storylines, sets, music, even the friggin' JEWELRY. LOL I am IN LOVE with this show and every single thing about it. Even when I b*tch and gripe about stuff, I am in love with it.
Don't see Three Rivers affecting me in that way, just like other TV shows I watch don't. Nothing probably ever will. Watching Alex's other movies and TV appearances haven't affected me that way. I mean, I love all his other characters, but Moonlight is the be all/end all for me. I can't see going to Australia just to see where Mary Bryant was filmed or trying to find the exact puffy coat Alex wore as Marcus in The Invisible. LOL The world of Moonlight is special and will NEVER be touched.
On a different wavelength: There are people out there who go to Cons for Supernatural (another show I love, but not with the severity of Moonlight). They also have jewelry worn on the show and are in love with Sam and Dean, just like we are in love with Mick and Josef. If SPN had been cancelled this year or last, you'd better believe the fans would have done the same as we and the Jericho/Chuck fans did. They would have sent in tiny Chevy Impalas or something to the CW.
What I'm sayin' is...we are NOT alone in our love for a TV show/characters/storylines/sets/music/jewelry. Heh. Fandom comes with some crap, we ALL know that well (
) but there are some amazing highs that come with it too. The friends we make, fun we have and stories we tell/read.
Fandom is awesome.

Re: Three Rivers and maybe I need counseling
I don't understand what the assertion that the cast has moved on has got anything to do with the OP, or for that matter, the mourning of ML or the feelings of loss about Mick. Sometimes I get the feeling that there is an implication that if you still love ML and love Mick that you can't let go (and that you must let go). Or that you can't distinguish between the actor and the character.
Some people have "moved on" to Alex and are Alex-centric, IMO, and use it as a justification for ditching ML, which has turned out to be not so special as the next best thing. Although that is their right, it doesn't mean others can't "move on"; that is not the issue. I love this site because it shows continuing and steadfast love for ML, enriches its existence, esteems it for its greatness and specialness in the hearts of some fans, and does it all with with no apologies. It's the only ML home I can count on to stand proud and unashamed and undiluted.
I'm gobsmacked by the thought that anyone who is concentrating on the actor is expecting Mick Mark II. But I'll tell you this- I'm watching the the TR preview and at one point, Andy sounds just like Mick- same intonation. It's gonna happen.
I happen to think that Alex is not a great actor. His is a medium talent, as he himself has asserted. I follow his star because he gave me Mick and is deserving of my interest. After channelling Mick, I am curious to see whatever he does next.
Meanwhile, I just finished watching all of ML for the first time since it was cancelled. Even though I don't read fanfic, I love hanging around such a pure place. I don't feel the need to go elsewhere, only here. I can't wait till the Alex furor dies down and we start concentrating on ML again. There are Alex-centric boards out there now.
I think that mourning ML at this time of year is pretty natural. TR is an unknown quantity and something that probably a lot of us wouldn't watch if it weren't for Alex. Just because Alex is now cast in TR doesn't make that sadness any less. In rewatching the eps I still feel sad because I know it ends. On a happier note, this time around I loved the kiss at the end of Sonata and was delighted with a cute scene in Click. I think that's progress considering I call the last eps the Unholy Four.

Re: Three Rivers and maybe I need counseling
OK! I haven't had a chance to read through the posts so if this was or wasn't said, I am sorry!
I also don't want tomatoes thrown at me because I am giving my honest assessment of what happened.
First, you need to know that I loved ML so very much! I have every episode on Unbox and DVD and VCR tapes. I have watched every episode of ML countless times; shoot, I have memorized every expression and line in it!
That said, ML was pretty much doomed from the start. They lost something like 5 showrunners which means the show had no ultimate direction or goal. They pretty much winged it episode to episode. That is why there were big gaps and inconsistencies in the story line. For example, Coraline comes in and they start her story , then they jump away from it, then they return to it; they were all over the place.
The show was expensive for CBS since it was a WB production and required special effects. Its viewership, despite the propaganda we got from certain sites, was very low for CBS.
Still, CBS, even after the strike, and even after every other freshman show was canceled, tried to give ML a second chance. No other network did that for any freshman show.
But it began declining in viewership from ep.13-16.
Alex had to do everything towards the end because no one was there. He starred, directed and whatever else he had to do to hold it together. He himself said it was a high-maintainence GF who even though you loved her you had to wonder if it was worth the effort.
Then Joel before the Upfronts gave the PTB his vision for season 2; werewolves and the legion; battles aka the Underworld movies;would it have been the romantic show we had come to love if it had continued? I sincerely doubted it. I think CBS did too and decided it was too low in ratings and high in cost and they made a business decision.
We were naive and drank the kool-aid about how CBS hated ML and NT was a bi**tch, etc., etc.
But Alex knew what was really going on, and he stayed with CBS because they did love him. ML was a mess.
Would I kill to have ML back? Better believe it! But it just didn't have what it needed to continue. It shared the fate of many shows that other people loved and lost. CBS learned from Jericho that trying to bring back a series because of a few vocal fans does not raise the numbers of viewers;just like adding episodes 13-16 didn't help ML.
I will always love my ML eps and watch them still today on my comp. But Alex has moved on and, except for enjoying our ML here in memory and fanfic, it, IMO, is time for the grieving process to end, just as you would with any loved one you have lost.
OK. I am ready!

Okay folks, this thread is NOT going to turn into a re-hash of why Moonlight was cancelled.
We've all been there and we've all done it to death.

Red, the question was asked; why did CBS not keep ML if they loved Alex? We can't answer honestly? Sorry that you feel that way. Of course I will follow your rules. I just answered the question. It seems that unless you say it was wrong to drop ML than you can not speak what you feel.

Re: Three Rivers and maybe I need counseling
WF, the question was asked in the OP, and there have been many responses. If you read through the thread, I don't think anyone, least of all Moonlightsonata, was looking for an explanation as to why Moonlight was cancelled. None of us are stupid - we all know the reasons given, the speculation and the conjecture. Restating the events tells us nothing new.
There has been some wishful-thinking here - some "if onlys" and "what ifs" but that's a long way from being a debate about old news about the cancellation itself.

With all due respect. You are entitled to your opinion but you are not entitled to dictate how others feel. And I agree with Red- no one here wants to rehash or analyse the whys and wherefores of ML's demise.willing freshie wrote:

Hence my suggestion to do what this site is all about - remember Moonlight with love and appreciate what it gave us all.

Re: Three Rivers and maybe I need counseling
Moonlightsonata,
If you need counseling, then so do I.....
Red is right....this place that we come to chat in, read and write fanfic in is because we all fell in love with Moonlight....
Moonlight is a very special show that has made an impression on many, and it is indeed unfortunate that is saw such a short life, but that is the harsh reality of it. For whatever reason, Moonlight didn't get to continue...on screen, that is.
There are a number of wonderfully talented writers on this board (and others) who have kept the Moonlight saga alive, with some exquisite stories that develop the characters and create some marvelous plots. Different authors offer different stories, focus on different characters, but they're all written from the heart.
Why did I start writing Moonlight fanfic? Because I needed closure. I can't remember who said it, but leaving the show where they did was like having a good book ripped out of your hands before you got to the end. I wrote because I was in mourning, but not any longer. Now I write because it gives me joy to keep the story alive just a little bit longer.....
If you want to keep the story alive in your own heart, read these stories. Find an author you like, then expand to others....you'll be amazed at what's out there.
