This is inspired by someone from another board who liked my Josef/Lola banner. Mentioned she would like to see some fanfic. I came up with something in my Snapshots in Time style. I do not own any recognizable characters.
Josef sat in his living room drinking an obscene amount of scotch. He sent all his freshies away for the night. He needed to be alone.
Dolores Maxford Whittaker the meaning of your name is sorrow but did you always have to leave so much of it in your path.
Mick had no other choice I know that. Lola was it necessary to turn on your own kind? If I wasn't such a soft touch with money, would you be dead today?
October 1929 New York
People say I'm paranoid. Well, paranoia has served me well the last 300 odd years and I'm going to keep at it. I've lost money in the market like everyone else. Fortunately, I've kept cash in about 15 safe deposit boxes and you have the love the Swiss. My real estate investments will give me a starting off point when this economic crisis ends. It's about time to trot out a new name soon anyway maybe Charles Konstantine.
Then she showed up.
Josef, it's been years. Lola purred I've missed you.
Well Babe, it's always good to see you, I could ask about the timing.
Josef, I did have most of my investments in the stock market, but that doesn't mean I didn't miss you.
We started seeing each other again that night. Lola was fun! It was nice to not be alone, before I knew it we were together for six months. I was thinking about getting serious.
That's when she asked me for money. Not money for clothes or hair, or jewelry but real money. She asked if I had $25,000 in cash.
Sure Doll, but what do you need that much for?
Josef, I need to start a little nest-egg. I don't want to always have to ask you for something.
Lola, I won't deny you. We're together.
Please Josef. A vampire needs a little independence.
What could I say? She's right. It's harder for women, if they don't have a vamp husband how can they maintain a comfortable lifestyle.
She was gone a week later.
That was not the first time she got money out of me and it wouldn't be the last, every 20-30 years, she'd show up, we'd have fun and then the Please, Josef, please and she would be gone.
October 2008
I've heard from Lola again. I've been lonely, thinking a lot about Sarah lately. I wanted to have a good time.
This time she was only around 3 weeks before she asked. The price does keep going up, now it's a million dollars for her future. I wasn't ready for her to be gone yet. That's why I asked Mick to find her.
I never would have given it to you if you had told me what you were going to do with it.
Now I won't be wondering if or when I'll hear from you.
I'm left wondering why I have such bad luck with women.

Ah, that explains things. Josef is embarrassed when he tells Mick about her. He makes up a story that Mick should believe to have poked out of Josef, but it was all fake. She didn't get his password, she got the money just so.
I like this take you have on their relationship. Poor man, falling for her again and again. No wonder he understands what Mick goes through with Coraline.
Well done, cassy.

Thanks Francis, you give such wonderful comments.
This idea really came about because of two reasons. First I saw a movie yesterday with the actress who played Lola, and then when someone liked my Lola banners and mentioned Josef/Lola fanfic. I think Josef can be an easy mark for women, but I also think he's aware of that weakness and doesn't mind it so much as long as he gets what he wants out of the deal. When I re-watched the episode and he said to Mick he heard from Lola a couple of weeks ago so it was on-again, I thought he just wasn't ready for it to be off yet.

This line makes me so sadI'm left wondering why I have such bad luck with women.

Interesting take on Josef's thoughts on Lola. You have to wonder what specifically went on with them in the past and how they met. She was an intriguing character who was around too briefly.

Wow--what a sad story. I loved this line:
I thought about Josef's on-again, off-again relationship with Lola, and I got the embarrassment part--but I honestly hadn't thought about how Josef would feel, knowing Lola was gone. Of course it would cause him to get nostalgic, even a little of regretful--and Josef doesn't do regrets well. But how could he not second-guess himself? If he hadn't been so willing to fork over the cash whenever she asked...
This story works well with Sleeping Beauty to reveal the part of Josef that he doesn't show the world. The part of him that says, "shoulda, coulda, woulda." He can't afford to show that side, but it's definitely there.
But you also bring out Josef's wonderfully resilient nature here, and his snark:
I hadn't thought about it, but that's so true--"dolores" means sorrows or pains. And boy, did she ever leave sorrow in her wake. She was one self-centered woman!!Dolores Maxford Whittaker the meaning of your name is sorrow but did you always have to leave so much of it in your path.

When I re-watched this episode and was reminded her name was Dolores this all clicked into place. I did another Josef/Lola story which ventured to the Dark Side. I wish I would get more Lola ideas.
