Josef Confronts Mick Anniversaries Chapter 2 PG 13 Jo/Be

Josef was worried about how Mick was going to take this news. Why should he be worried? Mick took off against his advice all those years ago. Mick had been his closest friend.

He arranged to meet him at his old apartment. Josef had taken care of the property taxes the last four years just in case Mick survived.

When Mick walked in Josef noticed he was much thinner almost gaunt. There was pain in his eyes that hadn’t been there before. Mick thought he had been hurt in the past. He used to say nothing could hurt as much as what Coraline did to him. Obviously he learned the meaning of real pain. Josef hated to add to it.

Josef. What happened to Beth?

Why did you leave her? What happened to you? Josef countered.

I owed Coraline. She sacrificed herself for me. I had to take the chance to rescue her.

Why four years ago? Why not six years ago when she was first taken?

I was still mortal and then….

You were mortal for a week. Then you took up with Beth and pushed poor suffering Coraline right out of your mind.

You never even liked her! Mick shouted.

No. I didn’t. I never pretended otherwise. You moved on and that’s fine. But if you move forward you don’t ever look back.

It was wrong to let her pay. Mick said weakly. When Cynthia called me…..


Cynthia???? You didn't tell me that was your source. That’s perfect. It never occurred to you that she would have set you up!

She loved Coraline!!!!

Yes, she did. I’m sure she tried to rescue her and when she failed she saw an opportunity to make you pay. Was Coraline dead before you even arrived in France?

Yes. Mick was very uncomfortable.

So maybe if you had told me the whole story before you left none of this would have happened. I could have told you it was a trap.

You would have tried to stop me.

Let’s see and if I had you would have continued your life with Beth. Coraline would still rest in peace and you wouldn’t have provided Cynthia with so much amusement the last four years. How did you get away?

Cynthia had a change of heart and helped me escape.

Josef shook his head in disbelief. Cynthia must have heard of my marriage and wanted to land the final blow.

Josef. What happened to Beth? Mick asked.

Beth is a vampire.

Who??? Mick growled. Why???

You weren’t here to protect her and when she was killed.


Killed????

Yes, by gang members. It wasn’t pleasant. When she was killed, I turned her.

So you’re her sire?

Yes.

How long ago? Was the transformation……. Mick let the words hang there.

It's all about you, isn't it Mick? If Beth wants to see you, she’ll call you.

Josef just tell me.

Mick, we spent years worrying about you. When Beth died I had to shift my focus. I have to protect her.

I understand as a sire you feel a responsibility but I love her. She’s mine.

No Mick. I belong to myself. Beth said quietly.

Neither Mick or Josef heard her come in. Josef decided to let Beth handle this herself.

He glanced at her hand and saw she was wearing the engagement ring he gave her but not her wedding band. He didn't want to think about what that meant.

This is really getting interesting! I think Mick is about to get his heart broken!! He may have been held against his will, but he shouldn't have gone in the first place!

(one thing that I was wondering about, when Joseph didn't hear form Mick after awhile, why didn't he go looking for him? Just wondering.)

Okay. So now Josef is lashing out on Mick when he himself didn't go and look for Mick either. Pot - Kettle, you know. Guilt is a powerful thing.
And then Beth doesn't wear her wedding band - oh my, what does that mean?
Very intriguing storyline! You have their emotions down!

kpyle - Thanks for commenting. It's not going to be an easy conversation for Mick at all. One of the reasons Josef didn't go looking for him in the beginning is he wasn't sure if Mick had been successful and he knew Coraline might have won him back. After Simone's unsuccessful turning and Beth's death his mind was all about Beth and he didn't necessarily want Mick back. He didn't want him dead but he didn't want to know.

francis - You hit the nail on the head. Guilt. Now that Josef sees that Mick is still so much in love with Beth he feels guilty for not trying to rescue him before Beth had to be turned. You never know with Beth so the ring could mean so much. I'm glad you think I got their emotions down I don't usually use strong feelings.
