I am sure, we kinda left a bad taste with CBS, but they respected and liked Alex enough to have him stay at CBS. So guys, pull up a chair, have a beer, IMO do you think we are going to hear anything before May, when old shows are cancelled and new ones announced. It looks like another crappy spring of waiting.

Just a little note, when I say bad taste, it is no one on of this site, and I was guilty (for a while) on being a fan that CBS (may) have not been happy with. Hey, I followed the leader!

Got your point, nayp!

However, if N.T. is to be believed, we were all about Alex anyhow, so why not promote the hell out of him?

Just using her very twisted logic to throw it back in her face. Hard. So it hurts.

Lisa, I think Nina did think this was about Alex, but they already have Alex, and when they put him in one of "their" shows they know he will "nail it" (sorry). Moonlight fans can dislike CBS till the cows come home, but right now they know what America wants. They don't need to promote Alex, when he hits one of "their" shows, Alex will be noticed. CBS needed to promote Moonlight, it was one of their unknow shows, their hit shows, they set back and watch the ratings stay in the top 20. Look at the top ten shows, CBS has the formula, and untill something changes with America's choice of TV, CBS will be king. They will not change, what does not need fixed.

Love the discussion, nayp.

It helps my tired brain cells--they need the exercise!

I understand your points completely. It just amazes me how much CBS still promotes their big-time shows. Granted, I haven't watched CBS in a long time, but when ML was airing, it astounded me how often they ran ads for CSI, etc. Those shows garner huge numbers, and they advertise the hell out of them still. I realize that the advertising budgets are bigger for those shows, but they constantly air ads for them, and those are thetr top-rated shows.

We have seen it time and time again, eventually, their formula will falter. Every so many years, another network takes the lead for a while. It switches back and forth. I just want them to remain successful as long as Alex is on their network. And I hope that the treatment he receives this time around is much better than before.

Lisa, you are right they do promote some of the shows, but look at the directors, and yes Jerry B can do no wrong. This last week, I have watched CBS more than ever, the Mentalist got the most advertising, and for the best new show. Why didn't Moonlight, get that, hey they won the best new show for the Peoples Choice. Because the Mentalist fell into CBS's shows, and I really believe, Joel could do wrong. Budgets for shows, yes, but the more we know, Moonlight's budget was bigger than what we thought. I do believe this, if CBS, wants Alex to go far, he will, and fans of Moonlight be damn (do I sound Shakespearean). I also believe TV will change, and CBS is king for know, and that will change, but right now the other stations need to come up with some heavy hitters to change CBS's path.

Lisa, I hope you are okay with this sparing, just let me know if I offend you in any way.

Oh, no worries nayp!

I love great discussions, and this qualifies. I don't even see it as sparring, because we are both kind of saying the same things, and we both want the same outcome. I love getting other's views, it informs mine better and makes me see things in a new light. We can only hope that the people that are in charge of actually making the decisions for CBS are as thoughtful and intelligent as we are!

Off-topic for a bit, I have heard great things about The Mentalist, but haven't viewed it yet. Could you give me your top reasons for watching it--see, I do value your opinion!

Thanks Lisa, as far as the Mentalist goes, love the show, the lead has some major issues (sound like another show we know). Just hoping another Aussie we all know gets this break.

I know. I adore Simon Baker--and it seems like he is getting his deserved break.
Hopefully, CBS will be known less for procedurals, and more for employing talented and gorgeous Aussies!

We do have a "Non-Moonlight TV" forum so if you would like to carry on the conversation about The Mentalist (and I would happily join in :) ), then it might be an idea to start a new thread there.

I think what we lose sight of is the fact that though Alex may be a god to us, most people have never heard of him. I never knew about Simon Baker until The Mentalist. I had also seen him in The Devil Wears Prada but was pretty indifferent to him. Did CBS promote the hell out of him?

CBS knows there is a fan base for Alex. I don't think they care about how rabid we seem, but about numbers. I don't even know if they nurture talent. If success comes to Alex it will be because he's in the right place at the right time with the right vehicle. It would be so nice if we had certainty, and could predict from past events, but I don't think we can. I bet you Simon Baker never imagined this level of success.

I guess what I'm saying is that it's a crapshoot for Alex and for us. I think CBS' procedurals are largely dull, except when really character driven. I hope Alex gets one of the latter. I am, however, encouraged by the fact that his ep of CM, as I understand it, will be from the killer's POV.

Exactly, that's the way it always works.

I would say that they didn't promote him or ML enough, but I am so biased, that I can't give an honest answer. I know that he worked his tail off going to small affiliates and giving as many interviews as possible to promote ML, but I personally think the network could have been behind the show a lot more. However, we may never know the extent of the backstage drama and how that all figured into CBS and how far they were willing to go for ML.
