To me the theme of "Love Endures" is exemplified by the tragic love story explored in "Sleeping Beauty." And here's a drabble about that.
Love Endures
Valentine’s Day in 1955, I gave her a thousand flowers. Daisies, lilies, orchids. Some great exotic things neither of us had ever seen before. Anything but roses. No hothouse blooms for her— I spent a fortune flying them in from warmer places. She didn’t believe in forced blossoms, said they never looked natural.
I didn’t mean to make her a rose under glass. And I don’t even know if she can hear me say “I’m sorry, my love.” But if the hothouse keeps her safe from winter, change, and death, I’ll maintain it, as long as my sleeping rose endures.

Lucky
This is perfect!
This challenge has had me thinking of this couple, too. Love endures here, despite the long absence both endure, but only one is truly conscious of. Josef has kept Sarah safe, in an odd parallel to Mick keeping Beth safe.
Beautifully done!
Thank you!

What a wonderful metaphor for Josef and Sarah's relationship.
Nicely done, Lucky!

I really appreciate this metaphor, it fits them both. He wouldn't want anything artificial, but with her, it's necessary to keep her alive. He can't let her go.

Oh this hits just the right note. Never thought of it this way, but it's perfect. Thanks!

Siiiigh... Josef knows that he's keeping Sarah in an unnatural state, one that she would probably hate, if she knew about it. But the alternative is so impossible.
I feel so deeply for him, in this quandary.

Oh suuuuure, Josef, you don't do regrets.
Sigh... but what choice did he have?
