To me the theme of "Love Endures" is exemplified by the tragic love story explored in "Sleeping Beauty." And here's a drabble about that.
Love Endures
Valentine’s Day in 1955, I gave her a thousand flowers. Daisies, lilies, orchids. Some great exotic things neither of us had ever seen before. Anything but roses. No hothouse blooms for her— I spent a fortune flying them in from warmer places. She didn’t believe in forced blossoms, said they never looked natural.
I didn’t mean to make her a rose under glass. And I don’t even know if she can hear me say “I’m sorry, my love.” But if the hothouse keeps her safe from winter, change, and death, I’ll maintain it, as long as my sleeping rose endures.
