“And it isn’t about sex.”


You think I don’t know that, pal? It’s not about sex – it’s about love – and fear. It’s about taking a chance and losing control…

It’s about crossing a bridge so shaky you don’t know if it can handle the weight of your decision.

It’s about exposing yourself – laying open your chest and handing her your cold, un-beating heart and hoping to God she understands. It’s not about sex. I get it.

But, you’re never going to admit what it’s really about unless I push – and push hard…


“Of course it’s about sex – everything’s about sex.”

That's exactly what I thought he was doing, Lilly! Thank you for this. Josef is the kind of friend that shoves hard when necessary. And knows it's gonna hurt, but it's necessary...and because he's the kind of guy he is, he takes a little pleasure in the shoving...but the love is there.

Back for a reread. I love this one because Josef is obviously talking about a lot more than Mick's feelings for Beth... and really, in a lot of ways, it's exactly about sex. But the "sex thing" is just an expression of the "love thing," and that is the really scary part for Mick. Push away, Josef. Mick will thank you for it... eventually.

In Josef, we saw personified the effects of a longer lifespan. He accumulates knowledge over a far longer period than most, able to continue and build on the conclusions he has made.
