Bill the term is used for larges peice of land own by mainly a cattle or sheep owners,so for people that may travel around Oz doing odd jobs(Alex) that would include working for the boss on their property and they would do all sorts of jobs .....such as being a cook to shearing sheep and mustering cattle.

Re: Alex O'Loughlin: 10 things you didn't know
Regarding the 'property' question. It sounds to me like a word was left out and Alex actually said "when I was on the property", which sounded very personal to me. I wondered if it was a property owned by a family member or something? But it also fits with what Ozbella said, he could have been a roustabout at various places. Maybe someone could ask him to elaborate on that at some time.
Did anyone else get the feeling that Alex would make a great writer? He has an incredible gift for drawing you into his world by telling a story. That was a marvellous little anecdote about going into his grandfather's shed. We know he's a very entertaining interviewee, but he's also a natural born storyteller. Talking about holding the watch up to his face and how the watch told a story of it's own, that was just magical.
I've always felt that Alex had a certain something that set him apart, and he definitely has unexpected depths.
