I didn't know the history of those pics either. I feel a little shallow in that I just love the flowery shirt.

Just lovely, Red.

I'm seeing why these are all favorites.

Oh thank you Red
See I learned something I didn't know...I didn't know that was shot in the hotel...obviously it's not a studio but it's nice to know where it was shot.
I love that he didn't have a stylist at the time because that style is ALL ALEX and only he could carry it off as well as he did. Who but Alex could make me love that "Fugly" Toile patterned shirt.♥ He even cared enough to wear Blue Shoes
I just love the curls and I'm so glad he didn't get a snip before the shoot. At first I didn't care so much for the unshaven look but it's trending now and he rocks it. But even clean shaven Alex is so beautifully masculine that the 5 O'clock shadow is always there.....and...
FYI:
Fun+Ugly = Fugly

Redwinter, you are AWESOME.redwinter101 wrote:*hoist by my own petard*
This was Alex's first big shoot, promoting his first big gig - Oyster Farmer - at a big festival (TIFF).
But it was still a small film, selling its wares in the big, international marketplace. These pics were taken in a hotel, not a studio, after round and round and endless round of interviews with people who had no idea who he was, let alone why they were interviewing him. He hadn't learnt his trade yet (in terms of dealing with the press) and films like this can't afford PRs and publicists and stylists and press wranglers.
But Alex was Alex.
He turned up, did every interview and promoted the film relentlessly. If you look at the pics as a set, there are some that are just divine - the ones that'll always turn up in an all-
time fave list - and there are also some that are a little too posed, a little awkward. A little unpractised.
And that's what I adore. No stylist would EVER have let the star of their movie turn up to a shoot in that shirt AND they would have made sure he'd had more than about 2 hours sleep beforehand. They'd probably have tried to give him a haircut, too. And probably a shave (oh, the horror!!!).
How many people could carry off that look?
Answer?
One.
That's why I love them. Alex in front of a still camera, in all his divine glory, started here in earnest (for me).
Red
I had no idea the context of those pics, other than that he was clearly new to the biz, and that he was already seductively adorable. Or is that adorably seductive?
You supply fascinating and pertinent information, with analysis, and the frikkin thing lilts along like an enchanting bedtime story,
Got any more Alex picture stories?

I have to ask - did you buy somebody a beer to learn the story of the flowery-shirt pics? It is such a lovely story (and told so well), and I'd never heard it before. I hope (really) that someday you do get a chance to buy Rodolfo a beer...because you tell a wonderful tale, and I'm sure you could do more than justice to his stories about his photoshoots with Alex.redwinter101 wrote:![]()
